“Trendy restaurant with very good food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

This is definitely not a cafeteria. It is a cute, trendy, Austin restaurant with a great wine bar (no hard liquor) and really good food. They have a grilled cheese appetizer with three types of cheese that is amazing and their crispy panko chicken and pork chop are not to be missed. Service varies from visit to visit but for the most part is decent. Extensive wine list.

“Wonderful choices, great neighborhood atmoshpere!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

The restaurant is a local favorite. The food is cooked to perfection. Be sure to save room for the appetizers. The crab cakes are delicious. The menu varies, but the fish and beef are excellent. For a slow, eas,y unpretentious restaurant in a neighborhood that is frequented by locals, this is the place to go! And, don't forget the happy hour prices!

“Enjoyed our meal and the service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2011

We had a group of 7 and were able to get seated immediately we did call ahead so the table was ready when we walked in the door, which was nice since alot of places wait until we show up to set up the table.
WE had a couple of appetizer but I only tried the Hummus and baba ganoush it was good the hummus was very tasty while I found the baba ganoush to be sweet it wasn't bad though just not what I was used to.
For entrees I had the quail and really enjoyed it the grits could have used a little spice but the carrots were done really well. A couple of people got the Pork Chop and it was juicy and they really liked it. The Reuben was good and the Star Fries have paprika which gives them a nice bite. The Blacken Tilapia was done well. The Hickory burger was good and messy, lol.

We enjoyed our food and our server was very attentive and professional which I was surprised to find at a place whose name is cafeteria. The place was a little loud and we could not have a conversation easily with the entire group. All in all it was a great meal with great service,

“Great food, great service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

I ate here with 6 people on New Year's Day for dinner and we all loved our meals. We all had different dishes and they were perfect. The chicken soup with stars was delicious. And my meat loaf dinner was excellent. Awesome American comfort food. Our server was patient, personable and made great suggestions for those of us who weren't quite sure what to order. One server went home mid-meal and another took over and she was just as great as the first guy. She talked me into the carrot cake for dessert and it was as amazing as she had bragged about. Love cake without nuts and other funky things inside to take away from the cake's cakeness. Don't hesitate to try this place!!!

“3 Visits, Mostly Disappointments”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2010

Granted, the 3 visits were over the course of a week (was the manager or main cook out of town?) in early December. First visit... tasty and reasonably priced hamburger with savory fries. Strawberry salad in the appetizer portion was ample and very good. It was field greens, spinach, strawberries, red onion, candied pecans, goat cheese tossed in a Tabasco maple vinaigrette. Well conceived, well executed. However, side of special veggie of the day, brussels sprouts, described as browned, were forgotten and when they did arrive, they were near raw. Sent them back as we were almost finished anyway. Second visit, medium rare hamburger was overcooked and waitress oddly said she would get us a replacement patty leaving the garnishes and fries with us. Fries were good but replacement patty was still overcooked. Strawberry salad again was nice, and amply portioned for $6. We were given a 20% coupon for the hamburger debacle which was nice thing to do. Third visit... death knoll struck when we ordered entrees in the $15 range. CRISPY CHICKEN BREAST had horrible quality chicken, like a creation of a laboratory. Side of spinach was too bitter. HONEY GLAZED GRILLED PORK CHOP had too much vinegar and accompanying mac 'n' cheese was synthetic. Yuck.

First time, staff was friendly and almost totally competent (forgot the sprouts), second time, amateurish, and third time, detached. Nice looking design and comfortable seating, though.

Can't see going back. Perhaps they have some other winners.
