This was pretty neat. You don't often get to see bats so I think thats really what makes this neat. I've heard in the summer there are so many more and we were just luck to have gone the 1st week in November.

We stood under the bridge and saw them come out and then went up top to see them circling under the bridge. Pretty cool. Don't worry too much about a camera though as it's pretty dark when they come out and they are so fast you just get little spots.

The bats are an amazing site. We make our annual pilgrimmage to Austin during late April/early May. This is the early season for the bat population,I read the population soars at the end of the summer due to new births. But, still an amazing site and well worth it! My 2 year old even enjoyed it ... though she insisted the bats were "tweety birds".

This is a must see. Important to know that there're a lot more bats coming.. even though you might think that it's the end.... and you'll be so stunned by the number of bats!

I visited Austin for the first time the past August (HOT!!!). I heard quite a bit about the bats that live under the bridge in Austin and I was anxious to see them. It's an incredible sight! The bats fly out from under the bridge in formation--they follow each other from one end of the bridge to the other until they all make it out--1.5 million in all! And they are all female. The males hang out in San Antonio, or so I was told. If you have a chance to go to Austin and you aren't creeped out by bats, make sure you make a point of seeing the spectacle. You won't be disappointed!

I have seen the Austin Bats for many years in that spot they fill on the news every year. I finally got my chance to see them. It was unlike anything I have ever seen before. It is no wonder many people come to see them, 100,00 a year. The wait can be long, they fly out 30 mins before sundown. Tips would be bring a snack or drink. Look for the worn spot on the grass. The best sopt we found was off the walking trail in front of the Radisson and TGI Fridays. Look for the worn grass and plop down and wait. The crowds will start aweing and you know they are coming out. It is something else to see in person. There were a lot of kids and they loved it too.
