I had a reservation at this Super 8 Austin in early January 2007. When I arrived, it was clear that this hotel was not very close to downtown and had virtually nothing in walking distance. I like to have shops or restaurants nearby. Next I tried to check in and asked for a room on the first floor. The woman refused to give me one, stating that these rooms were $5 more. Now I could have paid the small difference but since the hotel looked empty I was irritated that she couldn't waive the increase and give me one of the rooms I preferred. Then she told me that my room wasn't ready yet and to come back in an hour. She told me that I could walk to downtown Austin, but that looked like a long way across the major freeway and in perhaps a bad part of town. All this time the lobby smelled smoky and the little breakfast room looked really depressing. So I left and came back. At this point another woman started checking me in under the wrong reservation. I decided that this was a sign that I should leave and I cancelled my reservation to find a much better Super 8 a few miles up the road. My advice is to skip this one because of the unappealing location, inflexible staff, and better options nearby.
