This is an acceptable (budget priced) place to stay if you need to be in this area; otherwise, you probably can find better in another area of Austin. It is an older property but the rooms were clean.
I will give it an average rating, keeping in mind that Super 8 is budget priced property, and that some of the noise problems we experienced were a matter of bad timing and rude guests.
Pros- Location (it was in walking distance of where I needed to be).
Budget priced. Free Parking (most downtown hotels charge for parking)
Free Breakfast (cereal, waffles, bananas, yogurt). Rooms have a microwave & mini-refrig.
Cons: Noisy – you can hear EMS sirens during the night as the trauma center is across the interstate. Although near the interstate, you don’t hear interstate traffic.
There was remodeling going on at the time we stayed there and the construction crew (that stayed onsite) worked around until 11pm since they were trying to meet a deadline. (And yes, I did complain to the front desk, but the young lady on night duty didn’t seem to be able to do anything about it.) There were also some rude noisy guests who hung around outside late night. (It was bike week)
If our A/C would have worked on high fan, we might have been able to drown out the exterior noises. When the A/C shut off after reaching the cooling temperature, the noise kept me awake.
Rooms were kept clean, but the maids were not good at replenishing items. First time ever in all the years I have been traveling, that I had to go to the office to ask for toilet paper & soap.
Carpet could use replacing. Hotels would be better off using vinyl tiles (like Pergo)
Washer & Dryer were located outside on the second floor. Not very inviting to do your laundry.
Pool was an off color but it didn’t bother the younger guests.
Owner was helpful in giving us driving directions to avoid the gridlock of the interstate.
Make sure the A/C is in good running condition.
