“Outdoor venue of Austin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 6, 2013

This place is really nice. Its setting is so easy to enjoy. Stage was wonderful and the concert was perfectly regulated with the sound. Not too loud and we were on the 3rd row. We could still talk and enjoy the company.

The only downer I have is that we bought beers while standing line outside from THEIR Beer window.
When we got to the front of the line to go in, we were told that we couldn't bring it in. Kind of stupid cuz we just bought it from them!!!! And at those prices, its not really very fair.

If that was the rule, the beer window people should have warned us ahead of time. "You may have to guzzle your beer or throw it away"

“disorganized!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2013

We went to Willie's birthday concert. Fortunately we decided to go check out the parking the afternoon before concert. We had VIP parking pass and thought we would not have a problem parking. The guy at the gate told us that did not guarantee us a parking spot. Really? So we went 2 hrs before concert. Then were told by several different workers to get in that line, no wait that line. Oh heck, just wait in a line.....again we had VIP tickets! When we finally got in the gate they scanned our ticket and told us we didn't need an arm bracklet. When we got the to VIP area they questioned us how we even got in. Fortunately we still had our tickets. AFTER we arrived at the VIP section, things were great. Of course for that price they should be. The place was packed. However, everyone seemed to have a great time. Other reviews complain about parking and I can understand that. The people who sat next to us also had VIP parking and they had to park outside of the venue parking and walk because the lot was full. So I can suggest they work out something with the parking. Don't sell passes if you don't have space!

“Quintessential Austin Outdoor Music Venue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2013

I've been coming to the Backyard since it was a little hamburger joint in the middle of nowhere. Well nowhere is now somewhere and the Backyard has recently relocated to a new more remote patch just around the corner. Great permanent outdoor venue has several walk up bars, merch areas, and modern restrooms. Some events are seated and some tix are on the lawn (lawn is pretty much hard scrabble calliche but there are a few trees in the back) , bring a blanket but be prepared to stand for the concert as everyone does and you will not be able to see if you don't join! Music and production is top notch. Willies Birthday last weekend was a kick, the entire place is infused with his spirit, I would not be surprised if he were an investor. Willie+The Backyard is always a huge homecoming. Traffic. Yeah. Be sure to allow an hour or more if you want to park onsite. I think coming via Bee Caves Road and turning on Galleria Drive behind the mall is your best bet for a straight shot into venue rather than turning off 620? There is only one two lane road into the place, perhaps they can work on that? You can usually park at one of the businesses out on 620 as enterprising folks often offer parking for $10 or so and hike in - it's not that far. Also they sometimes provide shuttles from the Galleria Mall 620/BeeCavesRoad/Hwy 71 for sold out shows. If there is someone you want to see there, put on your boots, hat and bandana and go for it!

“Willie's 80th”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 29, 2013

Show was good.Entry into the place was ridiculous. It took us 1.5 hrs to get into the parking lot. Then had to drive around with no direction from staff to find a spot. Then we had to go through the same ordeal to get out of the parking lot. Only it took one hour this time. I probably won't go to another show there unless I get dropped off or park somewhere else and walk.

This is a great place to see a live performance. Great Sound, lights, space. Clean area and bathrooms. Easy access and parking.
Laid back atmosphere. Take a blanket to sit on and enjoy the music!
