“Gives Embassy Suites a Run for their Money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2011

We are regular visitors to Austin and always stay at the Embassy Suites near Town Lake. However, on a recent visit to Austin during the days before the Capitol 10K race, the rates at Embassy Suites were so high that we looked elsewhere. We wanted to be near Town Lake and we wanted accommodations with similar amenities to that of Embassy Suites--suite, hot breakfast, indoor pool/spa, exercise room and business center. The Residence Inn met all of these criteria and offered us a much better rate for our stay than Embassy Suites.
Things I Liked:
1. Friendly greetings from every employee we encountered during our stay
2. Great Happy Hour at the Champions Sports Bar right next door--While the alcoholic drinks were limited to beer and wine (no mixed drinks like at the Embassy Suites), the food choicest included more than we get at Embassy Suites. There was a buffet of chips, salsa, queso, Frito pie, chicken wings, chicken tenders (which were really good) and a nice salad and vegetable assortment. Also, I'm a soda drinker and I got a huge soda--no need to go back for refills as at ES.
3. Exercise Room--The room was quite large and had a lot of different equipment not found at ES. The equipment did not have the individual TVs that the ones at ES have, but there were two large flat screen TVs in the room.
4. Fully stocked kitchens. While we did not use the kitchen at this particular Residence Inn, I have used them at other locations and was glad to have them.
5. Hot Breakfast--While the breakfast was not cooked-to-order as at ES, there was plenty of hot food (eggs, sausage, French toast, etc.) and make-your-own waffles. The waffles were in the shape of the state of Texas and how can you resist that! (There were also fresh blackberries to put on the waffles which were great!)

Things I Didn't Like So Much:
1. There was only one computer for use by the guests. ES has several and a printer for free copies.
2. The proximity to Sixth Street meant that we heard music and street noise during the night. I'll admit that I'm a light sleeper, but I was awakened at 2am on a weeknight to the sound of drums and yelling. I would not want to stay here on a weekend when the noise from Sixth Street would surely be much worse.
3. The self-parking fee was $21 per night, 33% more than ES charges.

The positives of this hotel definitely outweighed the negatives and I will certainly consider staying here again as opposed to staying at Embassy Suites. However, as mentioned above, I probably would avoid this area during a weekend because I don't like noise at night. If you enjoy the scene at Sixth Street, this location would be perfect for you.

My family stayed here and from the consistently cheerful guest relations staff to the cleanliness of the rooms to the complimentary breakfast and workout room, this was an excellent stay. I highly recommend them for travelers or Austinites who just want a night in a hotel. The staff did a great job of welcoming us and going out of their way to help us find what we needed and even set us up at another Residence Inn to watch football at their lounge.

We selected this hotel because we liked that we could walk down to sixth street and back. The location is EXCELLENT for 6th Street or to go to the Capital- we even walked down to Home Slice on South Congress from this hotel.
As usual, each Marriott staff member we encountered was pleasant, welcoming and personable. They are quick to make recommendations or offer directions.
The room was great- comfortable and clean. We stayed in a Queen Suite and the room came with two large flat screen TVs, a fold out couch and a kichenette.
In the morning we had the breakfast buffet- I'm never very impressed with a breakfast buffet but they had a lot of options and all of the food was okay- there were scrambled eggs, sausage, potatoes, pancakes, fruit and- of course- the waffle shaped like Texas that seems to be an every Texas hotel.
The on thing I didn't like was that self-park cost 21 and valet cost 27- I thought that was a little high for self park but opted for valet because of the convenience. Valet was always quick and friendly.

Decent hotel, I liked that it felt pretty new. The workout area was nice, the pool was ok. Our room was pretty noisy though. We had to listen to the loud club music 2 roads over til 2 a.m. and could hear people in the hall and the rooms next to us too easily. The kitchen in the room was a nice extra. Free wifi is good. Excellent rate booking through Resorts Plus International.

Nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable. Staff from all departments was very pleasant. The attached sports bar was also quite good. Great location, being near all the districts.

I would stay here again... Its a great location, has plenty of restaurants/bars/etc nearby, has a Starbucks and a great sports bar in the hotel. I valet parked my car, which they charged $27 for, a total rip off, since basically I parked it, and they just let it sit there in front of the hotel, then handed me my keys back. The Valet guys were all 20yr old D-Bags, but the hotel is pretty cool. Its both a Residence Inn and a Courtyard, so they offered me a suite with a kitchenette for the same price as a regular room. The area isn't exactly quiet, especially on a saturday night. The area is full of young beautiful people and the local restaurants and bars are very hip. Its a safe part of town...
