For years, the PBS music program Austin City Limits was shot in a TV studio at KLRU-TV on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin.
Recently ACL got a major changeover with its new ACL Live - Moody Theater on the south side of the W Hotel in the heart of the 2nd Street district, just west of Congress Ave; among Austin's densest population area.
The PBS program is now shot at the new venue, but unlike the old studio, it is also the site for regular concerts. It couldn't be better. Everyone is close to the stage, even at the top of the balcony. Everyone has a great view, and the acoustics are wonderful.
My favorite location is the mezzanine, only about six rows deep, slightly above stage level, but there's not a bad seat in the house..
There are lots of bars in the theater, so there is seldom much of a line.
If you get a chance to see a show here, do so. Ticket prices can be high, but it is a special place. You won't forget a performance you've experienced in this incredible space.
Some nights of the year, such as Wine Down Wednesday in the spring, the exterior areas of the venue are alive with free appetizers and music
