“Really good bbq”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 4, 2013 via mobile

Interesting no frills BBQ shack in a strip mall. Ribs were great without sauce.....brisket tender and smoky.....shredded pork had a little heat and tasty. Sides are cafeteria style and OK but who goes to a meat shop and quibbles over side items. Probably not the best of the best but if in the area worth a visit.

“Brisket was so good I went for more.”

Just plain good, eat here. The brisket was so tender and good. The sides are serve yourself and were ok. Overall a great find!

“Great place on the North Side of Austin!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 23, 2012

Great location, food, and service. Went to this place twice during my trip to Austin. The staff is very friendly and the Restaurant is clean and the food was EXCELLENT! The sausage, ribs, and pulled pork were great, and the sides
were served in a buffet style. Plenty of parking in strip mall.
Go here instead of wasting time in line at Franklin BBQ.

“Kings might be pushing it!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

Being from KC I'm a harsh BBQ critic but I generally like Texas BBQ. This place is okay but nothing to write home about. The brisket was really fatty but the sausage had great flavor and texture. The sauce was not great. The side dishes were served buffet style and looked tired and sad.

“Kings? Hmmm.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

Perhaps in another state where barbecue isn’t taken seriously this spot would rank higher, but we were disappointed. Maybe we caught them on a rough day. Yes, the baby back pork ribs are pretty good, the beef brisket very good – the chicken dull and dry inside. Side dishes are above normal, almost very good without exception. Mediocre service needs significant improvement. Semi-buffet serving system also falls short of very good. The sauce on the baby backs was good, as was the color, but there was no detectable smoke flavor in the meat. The house BBQ sauce had a noticeable taste of liquid smoke – not so good. On the $9.00 2-meat plate, the meat portions were small. As for letting the sweet tea dispenser run dry (!!) – not acceptable. For barbecue lovers in a barbecue town, we expect a lot more from a place that calls themselves kings.
