“Pleasant Treat”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

Happened on to this place by chance today as we travelled from San Antonio to Austin the back country way. Looking for any place that looked like there might be a local contingency there - and here were all these cars and of course pick-ups. Nice treat - the atmosphere was great (very country with albums all over the walls of 'Greats' like Willie, Waylon - OH! yes for sure Elvis. Waitress was attentive and really sweet. The place is also known as; 'Nutty Brown Cafe and Amphitheater' do to there outdoor area where live concerts are performed. I guess I should comment on food!!! 'Pleasant Treat' - we chose the cajun chicken club with a side of fried okra - perfectly cooked - chicken moist and tender, not over spiced and okra 'fried'!!!! Take time out and just relax at this local 'Texas' Cafe.

“Popular Music Venue with Texas style Comfort Food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

This restaurant has been a mainstay for decades and just keeps expanding. Amazing patio and outdoor amphitheater for music venues. Good service, predictable food--burgers, some Mexican food and comfort food (chicken fried steak, etc.) and drinks. Serving are generous and place is very family friendly.

“Needs improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

Let me just start off with the fact that my most vivid recollection of yesterday's dinner at Nutty Brown was SLOW SERVICE. Our waitress had an attitude, did not smile once. After she brought our drinks and took our food order, she never came back to the table once until she brought out the food. In fact, I barely saw her in the room checking on the other tables either. Food took awhile.....This was a Sunday evening so it was not as busy as I've seen it before. In fact the family at the table next to us was so frustrated that they decided to get up and leave the restaurant instead of continuing to wait for their meal (and dealing with the waitress). Yep, it was that awkward.

The interior could use some additional cleaning as the window sills behind the booths were a bit dusty.

On a good note, our food was good. We both had fried chicken dishes. We might be back for the food. But if the service is just as bad, we probably won't be returning at all.

“Best Chicken Fried Steak Ever!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 30, 2013 via mobile

We were driving home from New Braunfels to Dallas and happened to pass this place along the way. Such a great little find! We were able to sit outside on the deck on Sunday afternoon and listen to live music. The Chicken Fried Steak and mashed potatoes were great. My sister had the creamed corn and loved it. One of my daughter's had an egg salad sandwich and really liked. The other daughter had the Sourdough Stack (turkey sandwich). Everyone at the table was very pleased.

We had a great waitress who was attentive, knowledgable and friendly. Would definitely go back!

“Old favorites at an old favorite”

Good value for your money. They serve reliable food at good prices. The patio is large and serves as their music venue but it is pleasant at lunch.
