For the past 2 years I’ve been a 2 times a day KD regular but I was tired of the rash of dry sandwiches which I had been receiving lately so I wanted to ensure that t lettuce, tomatoes, onions, etc (free) would be on this sandwich so I stressed this to John when I called in. I went in to pick up my sandwich. While the girl behind the counter was ringing me up I opened the wrapper expecting to see lettuce, tomatoes, onions, mustard blend but there it was another DRY SANDWICH. How could this be? She then informs me that my total is $9. I ask the girl (who incidentally has always acted like she has it out for me as though she's got something personally against me) if I could please see a menu. Why is this DRY sandwich $9? The price on the menu is $6.50. She informs me that it is 50 cents for the cheese (which I'm ok with) then another $1 for a call in order. WHAT?? I am so mad I leave. I do not want to explode in this crowded elbow to elbow standing room only sandwich shop. I see John as I am leaving. I glare at him as I know he purposefully made my sandwich DRY (not even mustard blend) because he knew it was for me.

I go home and struggle to eat this dry sandwich. After fighting my gag reflex bite after bite I somehow manage to get the whole thing eaten. I go back to my office to finish what was already one of the worst days of my life.

The next day just like every other day I'm driving by the Kitchen Door. The events of the previous day are not sitting well with me. Then I see the manager's suburban in the parking lot. He and I have always been amicable. I know he is soon vacationing in Costa Rica. I know stuff like this b/c I think we are friends. So I decide to stop and tell him how upset I am about all that has occurred. I explain to him about the $1 call in charge and how I find it ridiculous b/c by calling in I am freeing up space in the store. He informs me the owner authorized the charge on my order. I tell him that’s fine and dandy but why not POST this info instead of the all the prying I had to discover it. I was never afforded the info to make the decision about paying the additional charges. I was just charged it. I told him it was not good business. He said he was sorry and I said I was sorry too and that I was never coming back.

I would be lying if I said often times I don't wonder if I made the wrong decision ending things the way I did with the Kitchen Door but in my heart of hearts I know they left me with no choice. And it’s hard to stick with it as I drive by it every day. Some days are harder than others. Like today when I went home and ate my leftover pizza from last night a part of me yearned for a divine turkey cheese sandwich served on soft homemade white bread with lettuce, tomato, and spicy mustard blend followed up by a dense chocolate cupcake with cream cheese-choc chip center. BUT I WILL NEVER NEVER GO BACK. I KNOW EVERYONE AT THAT PLACE HAS IT OUT FOR ME!
