Simply put, The Clay Pit is my favorite restaurant in Austin and one of my favorites including everywhere I've traveled in the world. To put that in perspective for you, I am an international road warrior, I have experienced restaurants all over the world, including India. On Saturday, my husband decided he wanted to take me out for dinner, since I'm about to go away for another five week trip. Of course, the restaurant we chose was The Clay Pit. I had my usual favorite Kabuli Chicken and my husband had his favorite, the Mixed Grill. We had the Pakora Chaat to start and two different kinds of Naan (Three Cheese and Peshwari---my fave). With all that food, we had enough food to include the next night's dinner. The highlight of our meal was the Gajjar Halwa [pronounced gadj-ar hal-vah] or carrot pudding, as we call it. (Some people call it "carrot cake, but we think that's a misnomer.) It is a delectable combination of cooked finely shredding carrots and Indian spices, topped off with a generous scoop of luscious vanilla ice cream. Out of this world! Again, I highly recommend The Clay Pit in Austin. Whether you love spicy food or not, there's something for everyone. Oh, and our server Mark was the best we've ever had!
