“More history than food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

My wife, a Texas native, had been telling me about this place for years and when we went to Austin for the Fourth it was just too hot for food trucks, so we detoured here. The place is very interesting from a historical perspective. Food, while good, isn't great. I had the chicken fried steak, which wasn't all that big and it was tough. Sides were good. Waitress was a hoot.

Sop go for the history, not the food.

“Wrong time.....”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2013

I guess we hit them at the wrong time. We went mid-afternoon and the service was rather poor. We were seated in an out of the way place, even though the place was practically empty. The lady that seated us apparently didn't tell the server that we were there and I finally had to go ask for service. Where we were put, no one could see us unless they were looking for us.

Once we ordered, the food came within a reasonable time but we had to ask the server twice for dressing for my wife's salad.

The food was just satisfactory but because of the poor service, perhaps that shaded out judgement of the food. Probably will not go back.

“Thought it was to have the best CFS?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

Was told this was the best chicken fried steak in town. Steak was too thick and therefore tough to cut and chew. Sides were good as was the service.

“Austin atmosphere and good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2013 via mobile

Threadgills is Austin music history in a restaurant. The food is good but being at the heart of the early Austin music scene is so cool. Enjoyed the walk down memory lane with adult beverage and a nice plate of original dishes.

“Good Southern Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2013

I lived in Austin for 6 years, and stop in when I am in town. Sometimes we luck out and live music is playing. The place has good comfort food.
