My husband hosted a surprise dinner with a group of friends for my birthday in July 2012. We were placed in the private dining room in the back of the restaurant and there were two servers who attended to our party of 10. We were shown immediately to the room when we arrived and they were ready for our group as soon as we came in. Even though it is part of a chain, the overall experience was not one of a "chain restaurant".
Drink orders were placed and the server gave the ladies some recommendations on the drinks menu. (The boys were boring and just got beer.) My mixed drink, The Knockout, was very tasty without being overpowering. Two of the other ladies got the same and we all agreed it was very good.
After reviewing the menu, our group placed our orders. Although some places make you order off of an edited menu for groups, Suillivan's allowed us access to the full menu. As usual, I ordered the filet while my husband ordered something that came out looking like a brontosaurus rib. My filet was excellent, large and perfectly medium-rare. We also ordered some side dishes but I really only took some of the onion rings, which were hand breaded and as large as a hub cap. Everyone in the group mentioned how much they liked their meals so I think Sullivan's was a home run for us.
We did get dessert and as a special treat, I got dessert on the house for my birthday. Even though I was stuffed from dinner, I did manage to eat a sizeable portion of the creme brulee which came out in the largest ramiken I've ever seen.
The experience here was great. I couldn't find any fault with either the food or the service. My only small item of note was the fact that the AC did not seem to be on in the bathrooms so touching up the makeup was a bit difficult since I was sweating in there. (July in Texas does get very warm.) But that is such a small thing compared to the meal and the experience. While it's not a place I could afford to eat at every night, I certainly would be happy doing so...
