“Place to Go for a Great Tasting Bento Box Lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2014

Nice place to go for a great tasting BENTO BOX LUNCH. They offer a good variety of protein choices and tofu too. Plenty of food in BENTO BOX LUNCH, generous portions.

Clean and organized restaurant with good service.

“Excellent Teriyaki”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2014

Went during busy lunch. Host wasn't very efficient but waitstaff was. Best chicken teriyaki I have found in a while. Had us in and out in about 30 minutes as requested.

“Popular with Locals”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

Fairly typical sushi restaurant with some unique specials like Monk Fish Liver Pate (very tasty). Everything was well prepared and very fresh. Prices are about average. The restaurant seems quite popular with locals which is always a good sign..

“First time at Hanabi”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2014 credit card Amex Card Member Review

Warmly received by the hostess and promptly seated. Good selection of Japanese beers and excellent choices on the menu. My wife (Japanese) approved the ramen as the second best in Austin. I quite enjoyed the gyoza and tempura. Some Korean touches, reflecting the ethnic heritage of the owners, on some choices on the menu.

“Wonderful Happy Hour”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2014

Hanabi has a very large happy hour menu, allowing us to sample a lot of what they offer for a more reasonable price. The nigiri/individual sushi pieces they offer is about $0.75 off per piece, which was nice and covered a couple of extra pieces for the same price. They sell their ikura sushi for $3.50, which is quite the deal. The other nigiri were also very nice, especially the monkfish liver. The latter had to be ordered off the regular menu, but was only $3.50. The sushi chef here understands that you must serve sushi close to room temp for the best flavor. The eel and spider tempura rolls were quite tasty, and was the harumaki. The agedashi tofu is particularly nice because the tofu they use is so very soft. The only things we didn't like were the gyoza. We had both chicken and seafood gyoza, and they were bland and very oily.

After sampling the care and freshness of the sushi, I plan on doing omakase here very soon.
