“Great location for 6th Street”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2009

Wanted a hotel easy to find off I35 and walking distance to 6th Street. This fitted the bill. Stayed 3 nights. 10th floor room gave fantastic views over Austin. Great breakfasts-plenty of choice. Pool on roof terrace is adequate but gets very busy. Disappointed with 6th Street - thought there would be live music in the day (like Nashville). Comes alive at night - some good bars but noticed the same bands frequent them in a variety of line ups. All musicians seem to know each other and not willing to let a very good guitar player from England (my husband) get up to play. Austin Capitol not as good as Oklahomas. A must do is the duck tour - great value and very interesting sightseeing on the way to the lake.

I stayed at the Hilton for two nights. It was great !. The price was not too expensive considering the quality and location. I paid approximately $135, and it was very close to all of the nightlife, restaurants, etc. of downtown Austin. You can walk to all of the activities on Sixth Street. Everything was top notch - the staff was so friendly and courteous. I think I was reading on previous reviews that they charged for WiFi, but I used it and they didn't charge me for it. Parking was $16 or so per day, but I think the location and quality of the hotel made up for it.

A friend of mine and I stayed in this hotel for business. We decided that you are paying the high price for location only. It is across the street from the Convention Center and a couple of blocks from 6th street so that is nice. However, we asked the front desk if they had internet service and they said yes, in the UPS room. We discovered that is was 70 cents a minute with a $5.00 minimum purchase. If you bring your laptop then they have free wireless but that is the only way it's free.

The next question we asked is if they had a workout room and of course they did. We went to look at it and we were amazed at what we heard. You had to pay in order to use their workout facility!! I was appalled at that. It was a nice workout room but not for $10.00 a night or even $15.00 for your entire stay.

We also discovered that they didn't have vending machines. The only way to get water or a soda was from their stores which of course were over priced.

We decided we would stay there one night and then we left. They weren't even concerned why we were leaving after one night when we were suppose to stay there 3 nights. We found a cheaper hotel about a mile down the road with free internet and free workout room and it was just as nice as the Hitlon.

I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for a conference.

The conference had a special rate of $175/night. I believe the regular rate is something like $225/night.

It was a comfortable stay as the room had the expected amenities - nice sheets, comfortable bed, marble counter bathroom. The room also had a small couch & coffee table which was useful for room-service dining.

In contrast to the neighboring Hilton Garden Inn (noisy!), this hotel was blissfully quiet. I enjoyed a full nights sleep at this hotel.

For the quality of the room, I feel the regular rate is a little high, but the convention rate was OK. This hotel is almost double the price of the Garden Inn, but the level of furnishings is almost the same. The main difference is the Garden Inn uses solid patterns for their carpets while this place has more upscale flowery patterns.

I recommend the Moonshine Grill restaurant which across the street, near the convention center. Also, the Iron Works BBQ is 3 blocks further down the same street.

Since this hotel is next door to the convention center and 2 blocks from 6th street (music&bars), the location is great.

This was one of the best Hiltons that we have stayed in. Pros: Upon, check in, we were greated by friendly staff. He saw that we were traveling with kids and just offered to put us a corner room. The corner room was great-so much more room for kids to run around in and we didn't feel cramped at all. Staff was always helpful when you call the front desk with questions re: places to eat or things to do. Shower actually had good water flow and it was central AC and not the loud wall units. Beds were so comfortable and pillows were great too. Pool was beautiful though we just peaked and didn't try. They had a huge workout area and a spa too. Best part was we were only a few blocks from the headquarters of Whole Foods-that place was huge and a great place to go to eat breakfast that is healthy and have many options. Also, you didn't hear you neighbors too much-not sure if that was due to corner room-but even doors opening and closing we didn't hear too much nor did we hear people on the floor above us either. Hotel was very clean as well as the room. Flat screen tv and lots of places to store you items.
Cons: valet parking $25, self-parking $16. We choose valet-who was very quick especially when you call from your room-they had the car there by the time you hit the front door. No free internet assess even if you are a Hilton Honors member. It cost 13.95/day. Neighborhood doesn't appear to be the greatest surrounding but have some good restaurants within walking distances from the hotel.

Very nice upscale hotel. Clean rooms, nice lobby, and very attentive and friendly staff. Others have noted you do end up paying for "extras" like wireless Internet in your room (free in the lobby), and the food prices are outrageous (although to be fair it was very good). This place is definitely geared to the conference/convention crowd, and in that arena, it rates very good. Not a place to stay on a value-minded family vacation.

The Good: Can't beat the downtown location, the bed is super comfortable, and the room is spacious with a great view.

The Bad: These guys nickel and dime you at every chance they get. $15/day for internet!?! (In 2009, there really is no excuse for this) $16/day for parking? (In Austin, this is highway robbery) And the pièce de résistance, a 20-ounce bottle of water from the lobby cafe (not the mini-bar) costs $6!
