My wife and I travel to Austin frequently for leisure (UT football, visiting friends, etc.) and, for a time, the Austin Hilton was one of our 'go to' hotels, especially given its proximity to DKR. However, what we have noticed over the past several years is that the parking situation has become increasingly dire. 75% of the time, the valet is full so we are accustomed to self parking now. This last visit, my wife (who is 6 months pregnant) and I were attending a wedding in Austin and decided to give the Hilton another go. We come up 4th St to the intersection of Neches to come into the hotel/valet driveway but the intersection is completely blocked. People are literally unloading their luggage from their cars in the middle of the street. After 20 stationary minutes, we manage to drive around the intersection and come down another street to self park. It turns out someone had abandoned their vehicle in the middle of the driveway and the driver couldn't be located. So we check in, get in our room and change, and we're off to the wedding. We return around 11:00 PM and are advised that the self park is now also full and we need to "go find" alternative parking. Huh??? How does this happen? We are in downtown Austin, near 6th St., on a Sat. night. Are you kidding me?! Why have you not tried to make other arrangements for your paying guests?! I end up dropping off my wife and spend the next 30 minutes driving around looking for parking. After my 3rd 'drive thru', a spot opens in the convention center parking garage. In the morning, I march back to the convention center to find our car and pay the additional fee for parking 'overnight' (???). We check out and what do we find on our bill: a charge from the hotel for parking. Salt on the wound... everything else about the hotel is pretty good but I can't understand why they can't better manage the parking situation. It shows an utter lack of consideration for your customers. This will probably be our last stay... unless we happen to ride our bikes to Austin.

Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your recent visit. We regret to hear about your difficulites finding parking space duriing your stay; on high demand dates such as UT home games, etc. the parking garage can fill quickly and we certainly do understand that there is limited parking in the downtown area in general. It is our goal to provide each guest with an excellent experience and we apologize that this was not the case. If you have been double charged for the parking, please do not hesitate to reach out to the hotel directly and we will be happy to assist in getting the bill corrected.
Again, thank you for your feedback and we do hope you will consider us once again the next time your travels return you to Austin.

This was a great choice for our Child Neurology Society meeting. The hotel was well-designed and the services were first class. This contributed to a very successful meeting experience. I loved my room on the 23rd floor and appreciated the fact that the receptionist who checked me in helped me find this great room. It was worth the extra charge to be on a high floor with a great view. There were some times I needed to work on my computer at the desk in the room. It was inspiring to have such a wonderful view of Town Lake in Austin while doing my work. I have stayed at this hotel before with my family and I will choose this hotel again when I need to travel to Austin.

The Hilton made our girls trip perfect. Our room had beautiful views and was kept very clean. Aundre McCullen at the front desk went out of his way to make sure all needs were met. He was always ready to give us recommendations for great restaurants like Moonshine. He also made our trip special by adding touches to our weekend that made being with friends even more special. Thank you Hilton and thank you Aundre for your impeccable service and attention to detail!

First of all, because of its location to UT it gets by with charging extremely high rates for old, worn, rooms. I paid close to $500 a night for a "suite" which was small by european standards. The carpet and furniture was worn. The sofa bed was springy and barely sleep-able, and the king sized bed was hard and very uncomfortable. The valet was rude, and they "ran out" of valet parking at 4 in the afternoon on a Saturday! The breakfast buffet had little selection and my made to order omelette was brown in the outside and runny on the inside. The executive lounge was also run down, the food was okay, but there was an attendant watching the the NSA to make sure you didn't take any wine or beer without writing a slip. Overall, a bad, expensive night sleep in a dated non-luxurious room, with rude staff. I am sure the manager will right a little note to try to assuage the criticisms of this review, but trust me, you can do WAY better than stay at this Hilton. Never again!

Room Tip: try another hotel

I was really impressed by this Hilton. The room was modern, comfortable and spacious. Views form the higher floors are great. Fabulous pool and fitness centre on 8th floor. It is an easy walk to Congress and there are lots of places to eat close by. Staff were helpful and friendly.

All appeared nice, but once checked into the room the air conditioner was found to be inoperable. The controller was useless and might as well been a decoration. The data tag for how to adjust the unit was a generic one that didn't even match the unit installed. All the A/C unit did was make a little noise and shift the air just slightly. Complaints to the desk resulted in a lesson as what to do (adjust this, select that, and wait a few hours). On the second night, the offer was made to FINALLY have someone look into it. Of course it would have meant getting dressed, waiting around and standing in the hallway at 930PM. For the money that is spent for this hotel there are several hotels within view that undoubtedly offer a better value as you will be able to sleep and wake with out being covered in sweat.
