“Great staff, great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2011

Stayed here for an industry conference so was one of several hundred guests yet I always felt that I was treated as an idividual. Rooms are very comfortable, air conditioning works well (very important in 100+ degree weather) and is quiet. Convenient location to the light rail and Sixth Street. Easy walking distance to a variety of locations or a quick taxi ride, of which there is always a line available. Business center was very adequate. Internet is not included in room rate. Plenty of places to sit in comfortable chairs in lobby and conference center to meet with associates. Easy to get in and out of as there are entrances on each side of the building. Can't comment on the pool as it was closed for repair.

Visited Austin for a four-day trip while my partner was attending a conference at this hotel. This is a very large, convention-oriented hotel - directly across the street from Austin Convention Center; the Hilton also has a large meeting room/ballroom complex of its own. Arrived at night, quick trip from the airport. Arrival was quick and efficient - bell service was right on the job and cheerful took our bags and directed us to receptio, then escorted us to our room after check-in. Lobby and reception area were large and nice-looking. Check-in was quick and cheerfully handled by the Hilton staff. Hotel decoration all appeared very new and classy. Very nice artwork and styling details with a theme of Texas Hill Country - loved the tin fixtures on the elevator and lobby floors.

Room was spacious and well appointed. Decor was fresh and spotlessly clean. Everything is the room was in good order. Bed was very comfortable, never heard any noise from outside the room. A/C worked blessedly well, shower was well-stocked - good water pressure and temperature. Our room was always serviced quickly and thoroughly every day (usually was cleaned by the time we returned from breakfast!)

Ate breakfast each day at Liberty Tavern in the hotel. Nicely styled place with "American Comfort food", including an option for a breakfast buffet. Everything I tried was good, with nicely varied options. Particular enjoyed the Migas and the other Soutwestern breakfast dishes. Didn't have the chance to try to top-end restaraunt Porter & Finn - but it did look lovely with a very nice men (steaks and seafood). Also got snacks and drinks from the hotel's Java Jive on Five shop - loved the ice cream and dessert offering that they offered as a mid-day treat!

Spent a couple of afternoons at the hotel pool - which was nicely decorated. I didn't have any problems get a lounger or service at the pool bar, but I could understand that this area might get overwhelmed at peak times.

Yes, you will pay extra for most extras (internet access in room, fitness center, parking), but I expect that in a luxury downtown business hotel - that's the norm at these places.

All Austin Hilton staff that I encountered were friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. The hotel is in an ideal location for walking to most of the sights in downtown Austin and the Sixth Street Historic District. I would definitely be happy to return here and to recommend it to others who are seeking a standard, good-quality luxury hotel option in Downtown Austin.

Tip: The public bus from the airport stops right across the street from the Hilton - it's a quick ride (about 15 minutes). Fare is only $1 - very easy to do if you don't have multiple pieces of luggage to tow.

Just spent 5 nights at the Hilton Austin. It wasn't a bad stay, but it wasn't anything special either. Why is it that the more you pay for a room, the less you get in amenities. Had to pay extra for wifi - ridiculous! No shuttle from airport. Had an issue with the billing being incorrect. My room key went bad.

The room was clean and functional, the daily service was fine. The personnel were generally quite friendly.

I would rate the stay as OK - nothing better.

This is a large hotel, yet we were treated very professionally and quickly at check in. The rooms are nice, clean and contemporary. The coffee bar is wonderful and comprises a large area of the lobby. complete with newspapers, ice cream, cold drinks and snacks. The location is great: very near UT, 6th Street and walking distance from night life.

Stayed here for a conference held within the hotel. Nice space and good breakfast and lunch break food. Rooms were very clean with a great housekeeping staff. No complaints. Didn't partake in hotel restaurants. After being in conference all day, had to escape to the great outdoors for dinner and entertainment--all within walking distance.

This hotel was not for me. I am a budget mindful traveler. The only reason we stayed here was because my husband was on business and his work paid for the room. Everything at this hotel had a price. Internet in your room, $14. Exercise room needed a membership, $10 a day. No continental breakfast. Luckily the pool was free, which is where I spent quite a bit of time. This is a place for folks that have extra money to spend on things that are complementary at other cheaper hotels.
I will say that the front desk staff was accommodating. When we first arrived and walked into our room on the 12th floor it smelled very smokey. We went down and explained the situation and they quickly gave us another room on a different floor. I wouldn't choose to stay here in the future.

I stayed here four nights at the end of July for a conference. The hotel is convenient to a nice little entertainment district, on 6th St., though Congress, the Capitol and the University are a bit of a hike in 100-degree weather. Rooms are extremely spacious, with a large desk and a loveseat, and the bathroom was also very nice, with upscale amenities and great water pressure and temperature. Heating and cooling in the room was also up to standard, and the hotel was quiet, though I suspect this is not always the case on weekends (we saw large teen groups coming in and the "no partying in the rooms" sign goes up on Friday night). Room service was fast and the food was hot and tasty. There was nothing really special I can point to, but all of the above was appreciated!

Now for the not-so-good. I didn't like the fact that all of the health and convenience items you would normally find in a hotel gift shop were behind the counter in the coffee shop, so that you would have to announce to the world if you needed feminine hygiene products or etc. The conference rooms were not heated and cooled properly, so that all of the interior rooms (not on an exterior wall) were boiling hot and the ones on exterior walls were freezing. Conference staff was extremely helpful and hospitable so that made up for the discomfort.

The worst--I checked in with a group of five women and three men at about 2:30 in the afternoon. ALL of the women in the group were told they would have to wait for an hour if they wanted the King room they had reserved, while ALL of the men were given a King room immediately without comment. I should point out that the men were not dressed better than the women, and they were scattered at random in the check-in line, so I can only conclude that they were given preference for early check-in to preferred rooms. This is completely unacceptable for a business hotel in the US in 2011, and made me wonder what other subtle preferences the men might be receiving during our stay.

Room Tip: If you want a good room, be a male.
