“Kathy is a wealth of knowledge”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2012

If it's your 1st time to Austin (or not too) this hotel is a must. Kathy is super friendly and will give you excellent information on where to go and especially where to eat, which is a great pass time in Austin. Her recommendations were spot on. The rooms are fantastic, new and clean and the beds are heaven. You can walk up to East 6th street (very safe), where there are many bars and food trucks. Downtown and South Congress are only a short cab ride away. My only suggestion is that the room we stayed in had a skylight, so you may want to bring some eyeshades.
Thank you Kathy for your excellent hospitality and your food recommendations, nothing we requested was ever a problem!

We spent one night at The Heywood Hotel and was simply in awe of how beautifully done this place is. The bathroom is open and the shower was absolutely perfect with it's natural skylight. Not to mention that the towels were the softest I have ever experienced in a hotel. The hair products, soap and lotions provided were quality products that you don't find in a normal hotel room. The best part of our room was the bed and linens. I didn't wan't to get up the next morning, in fact, my husband brought his coffee back to bed so he could lounge in comfort. Kathy and her staff were so pleased to have us stay with them and I can't wait to return for another visit. Truly a gem of a place for anyone visiting Austin.

I found the Heywood Hotel on TripAdvisor. Based on the positive feedback from other travelers, I decided to stay on my visit to Austin. The other reviews hit the key points and we all true -:) Kathy (owner) was on site every day during my visit - she made a number of recommendations for sight seeing and dinning that were on the mark!. We used the bikes one morning to ride to Barton Springs (75 mts round trip ) which was a great way to see a bit more of the city. The hotel is on the East side near downtown and South Congress. We called cabs to come pick us up for evening excursions - it took 10 minutes from the cabs to arrive, the trip was no more than 10 minutes and cost $10-12.

We can't wait to return to Austin and stay at the Heywood again!

Room Tip: Ask for 1 of the rooms upstairs (back of hotel) that face on to a nice interior courtyard for mornin...

The rooms are well appointed and very clean. The small hotel is very comfortable with large showers, very quite and extremely comfortable beds. The entire staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. The mini bar prices are the cheapest I have ever experienced. The one thing I liked least is the location, while extremely convenient to downtown, it is on the border of East Side of Austin. We would definitely stay again.

I stayed at the Heywood while in Austin for work. The hotel is immaculate and the attention to detail is impressive. The vibe is really low-key and you feel at home there because there are so few rooms and the staff make the effort to learn your first name. The rooms are very clean, modern and well decorated. A lot of effort has gone into the style of the hotel and the rooms. Some other highlights include the modern bathroom (cool open shower with skylight), the shampoo/conditioner/soap offered is high end and there is good AC (which is key in Austin!). I was pleasantly surprised to see the mini bar prices were reasonable (unheard of in most hotels). The only potential negative is that the hotel is located about a 20 minute walk from the downtown core. While the walk isn't far, the scenery on the way there isn't very nice/interesting. That being said, it appears to be an area in transition so this may improve. There is a great cafe en route to the city called Cenote.

We stayed in both the queen balcony #7 and the king patio #4. Both rooms were amazingly sleek. The pure white bed linens, the funky art prints, the seating areas inside each room, the natural light-soaked bathrooms...where to begin! Modern with internet radio, i-pod sound system, flat-panel tvs, yet funky with the locally-made throw pillows, unique art, and interesting geometric windows. We loved our sleek open showers, quirky sitting chair (in #4), private, people-watching balcony (#7), and our private patio (#4). The upstairs outdoor common area had a great vibe with hung lights overhead, and cool seating. We'll definitely be back!

Room Tip: Rooms #4 and #7 were perfect. Maggie, who works there, admitted those were her 2 favorites and we c...

The Heywood was charming yet modern, clean, comfortable, and the open shower in the bathroom with the skylight was quite a luxury. We stayed in the Queen Bee room for two nights. It was a small room, but did not feel so because the ceilings are high and there is plenty of natural light. Mini bar prices were very reasonable and they had yummy snacks stocked. The bed was very comfortable. Complimentary hot tea and coffee was a plus, as well as a stash of menus for local restaurants. The front porch with hanging single seat swings is a must to enjoy on a nice evening. The BEST part of our stay, however, was the kind and generous staff at the Heywood. Rose was willing and ready to answer any questions we had about food and bar recommendations (which were spot on, by the way), and she even let us use her work computer to print concert tickets when we realized we had forgotten to do this before arriving. For us, the location of this hotel was great. We were within walking distance to several restaurants and bars on the East side of 6th St. We enjoyed being in a more relaxed area where it wasn't too crazy or crowded - just a note for others who may be looking to stay closer to the more well traveled parts of 6th street. Overall, the Heywood is definitely a place we will return to in the future. We really appreciated how detail oriented they were.

Room Tip: There are two rooms on the ground floor that are right off the lobby, but we enjoyed being on the se...
