My stay here was very disappointing given the price tag. This place has so much potential - the grounds are definitely beautiful and well-kept, the infinity pool is gorgeous. Food was delicious and healthy, what a plus! But overall, the cons outweighed the pros here for us. First, the check-in experience was shocking. I booked directly and splurged for a Canyon View room with 2 Queen Beds. Checking-in required patience with only one front desk person, and upon arriving to the room, we discovered it was a first floor "Nature View" room which is quite a difference in price and quality of view. Obviously I went back to the front desk to change it and discovered I had somehow magically been downgraded and not told. After 15 minutes digging through my reservation and speaking with the maintenance staff, the front desk girl told me she would move me to a Canyon View room and be bumping someone else out of their room who hadn't checked in yet! She even told me not to say anything to them if I happen to see them which I assume was a half-joke but wasn't entirely sure. Surprised, I questioned how this could even happen as it's such an unpleasant customer experience for everyone, and she said they oversold the Canyon View rooms and often do so "similar to an airline" who oversells seats...verbatim. Really? I couldn't believe it. When finally arriving to our allegedly stolen room, it had only 1 Queen Bed (still not what I booked) but at that point we decided to forget it and stay as it was only one night. Honestly, the entire staff was largely unprofessional and seemingly untrained throughout the whole stay.
Dining: food was amazing, but the experience was mediocre. I purchased the meal-plan for an extra $100/person and yet was still given a check at the end of every single meal. Even after making a dinner reservation and telling the staff we had the meal-plan, the waitstaff consistently showed up with a check and apologetically had to remove it for all the meals. There is just no communication between the staff members and the "luxury" resort doesn't go out of their way to make you feel like a special guest where they at least pretend to establish a rapport with you during your stay.
Activities: maybe we just got unlucky here. Checking-in on 12/26, we discovered all the activities finished at 2pm (we arrived at noon). There was one archery class starting that was completely full with a whopping 8 people, but the same front desk girl told us to try and show up anyways in case they could accommodate us (they couldn't). OK, I get it: we were not the first people to sign up and I understand that, but I paid $600 total for a one night stay. Travaasa, please use this money to invest in another bow & arrow or two, so more than a handful of people can participate. As a result, we didn't get to do a single activity that day, and were checking-out the following day. What a waste of a day... an expensive day.
Overall, the Travaasa experience was very disappointing and did not live up to the expectations we had - especially for the hefty price tag. Beware.
