I am a serious Japanese food eater. I know my what I like/ want and have dined at top-end japanese restaurants for $100+/ person. Uchiko offers something different -

Energetic atmosphere - like most newer trendy Japanese izakaya places that have sprung up in N. America. This is not the typical sushi bar, where you can expect a quiet environment with master chefs in the background preparing your sashimi/ sushi. Uchiko, however, does offer top quality sashimi/ fish if that is what you're looking for. I would absolutely place my bet on Omakase if that's what you're looking for.

Inventive & Adventurous - the seasonal menu/ house items many of which are items that you will have not much clue about as they are created in-house by their creative culinary team. Take a leap of faith and trust in your server more than you're usually comfortable with. Excitement and satisfaction guaranteed. Not for you if you are food-shy. You need to have an open-mind and appetite/ courage to experience new things.

Our server, Brian, is in the top 2% of servers you would ever meet in life. He's fun, knowledgeable and great conversationalist. Brian is probably the second server that I will remember from all my previous dining experiences. His track record is great - we loved 100% of all his recommendations. The way he described/ explained dishes is the exact way we expected them.

It's pricer than your average dine-out meal but for the experience, adventure and fun you'll have, it is well worth it. You will have so much fun and definitely create memorable experiences at Uchiko!

Top recommendations - conclude your meal with a piece of Gyutoro Nigiri (wagyu beef), they will blow your mind away! Also memorable was the sheep's milk/ bird's nest dish (forgot name) - unbelievable taste and texture!

Please go to Uchiko. Not only is the food amazing, but the dining experience cannot be matched. Each waiter is well-versed in the menu and is willing to cater to the diners' tastes. For example, I told my waiter that I liked yellowtail and beef. The waiter suggested a couple of dishes, which I tried and loved; thus, no knowledge about sushi is required. Moreover, much thought and effort is put into the presentation of the food. Everything is impeccable: the environment, the service, and the food. I highly recommend the wagyu beef, sea bream, brussel sprouts, yokai berry, and hama chili dishes. This restaurant is for the semi-adventurous eater with something to celebrate. While pricey, Uchiko is a great place to celebrate a momentous occasion. You will not regret it.

Everything about this place is superlative. It is famous throughout the US and highly recommended in every guide I have ever seen.

Dinner at Uchiko is a delightful experience. Everything we ordered was delicious. We kept a menu and ordered as we dined. Service was professional as well as warm and friendly. From the first moment you walk in you feel welcomed. I really think the entire staff enjoys being here and it shows in their demeanor and service.
Casual but special. Great to have such an outstanding restaurant in Austin!
