“Great way to kill some time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Recently spent a Saturday popping in and out of the the quirky little shops. Had a great time people and pet watching (dude walking around with a towel wrapped around his head as though he had just stepped out of the shower...seriously!) Kindda sad so many people know about SoCo.

“Funkytown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 22, 2013

This is the funky part of Austin. In addition to 6th Street, this is what the slogan "keep Austin weird" really means. Lots of funky shops and cafes and a bunch of food trucks. Unfortunately, we went late in the day so a lot of the food trucks were closed, but this certainly has a funky and fun vibe, and I look forward to getting down there sometime when all the trucks are open.

“Keep Austin Weird!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2013

This is a great place to get a feel for South Austin - very cool, very hip, very fun!

If you stray off the beaten path - to South First Street for instance - then you get a bit more of the original South Austin feel too. I'd suggest starting with South Congress and then head over to South First when you're starting to wonder if South Congress has become a little commercialised.

“Go for First Thursday of the month”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

There are some really good restaurants (e.g., Guero's) on this main drag, and the neighborhood comes to life on Thursday nights. On the first Thursday of each month, there are artisan fairs and live music on the street at night. It doesn't really compete with the main drags in some bigger cities, but you definitely get into the Austin vibe pretty quickly.
