“Live Love Paddle's bat watching trip is the coolest way to see one of Austin's top attractions.”
I took one of LLP's Congress Avenue Bridge Bat Tours last April and had a blast. It was a Friday night and the weather was perfect. To be fair, I had never seen Austin's bats before, and they are a must see on their own. But seeing them from the LLP's kayaks added an element of fun to the trip that there's no way you can experience just standing on the bridge or sitting in one of the tour boats.
I had never kayaked before, but the kayaks LLP provided are really easy navigate in. I really didn't require any instruction at all; I just got in and was able to do it. Plus, these aren't the kayaks you see in the Olympics. These are 'sit-on-top' kayaks that don't roll over like the Olympic kayaks do.
I would suggest wearing a swim suit, because my bottom got a little wet on the trip, but my shirt stayed mostly dry. Also, I'd suggest water shoes/sandals of some sort, because your feet get wet getting in and out of the kayak.
Casey and Beverley do a great job with this. You can tell that they both have spent lots of time on the water. Casey led our trip and knew a lot about Austin's bats and bats in general.
To sum it up, the trip was a lot more fun than I expected. I'm going to try to do one of LLP's Guadalupe River Tours next time I'm in Austin.
