“Smart alternative to Westin.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013 via mobile

Was my 2nd stay with the aloft. Got it much cheaper than the Westin where we usually stay. The Domain is a nice area with everything walkable. Don't book it when you need to be close to downtown, is quite a drive.
Staff is very friendly and helpful. Hotel has a 'youngster' image :)

Pros-

Although I like a lower floor room, I was not happy with the first room we were placed in, so we were promptly moved and landed on the top floor (6th-604), close to the end of the hallway. The room was very quiet, very little hallway/construction noise. The bed was a bit lumpy to me, but tolerable and the A/C did a great job, it was almost too cold. Note: (The hallways are warm due to construction) Our window view was on the construction/pool side, but we were up too high to notice without looking down. The view of North Austin was really nice in the evening and early morning.

There is no tub, but the shower was very roomy, and the water temp. was great! The room itself is designed very efficiently, but flows well and was comfortable.

Inviting Lobby...Pool Table...Games can be checked out from the desk...Bar....Exercise Room...Business Center...and nicely stocked Snack area.

Easy Traffic in the area.

Across for super nice mall and restaurants.

Cons-

Self-parking is complimentary...but not on location. Its on the corner and there is no valet. Also the patrons from Mall and Bar next door use the same lot and where using the area designated for the hotel. The hotel did not enforce their parking while we were there.

Its really, really pet friendly. While hanging out in the lobby on our last night, we saw at least 15 dogs come through the lobby. They were small and seemingly friendly animals. I am just not a animal lover and it was not clear if there was a floor designated for pets. Something I will definitely check into more when booking hotels in the future, since both the hubby and I suffer from allergies.

The staff could use more training in customer service and working with different ethnicities, they were not rude, but could have been friendlier. (Simon excluded, he was super friendly and helpful every time we saw him.) I asked about the refresh station (thinking thats where the ice machine may be located) and one of the clerks responded thinking he was being funny, but was actually a bit offensive.

This was a minimoon for us as we were just married the day before our stay at Aloft, so we were able to relax after a stressful few weeks. We were even able to get dine in service and the food was excellent. I am still not completely sold on Aloft, but I don't count it out. I will definitely give it a try in another city before making a final decision. I probably wont ever go back to this particular one, not because of the hotel, but because I don't like the city of Austin itself.

This was a very nice Hotel in a great location! The staff could not have been nicer - even gave us a nightly lift to area restaurants! The folks who work here are definitely many steps above the average Hotel employees (Simon, especially :)! I even got into a Real Estate conversation with a very nice gentleman at the front desk, and when my daughter and I returned from dinner he had a local newspaper with an article about our discussion bookmarked and waiting for me. Now that is not just service - that is thoughtful intelligent service!

We regularly use Best Western Inns as our go to place for accommodations away from home. But with all the buzz about ALOFT in WIRED, we decided to give it a try for a one day get away. We were impressed! From the moment we checked in we felt like valued guests. Our room, while appearing small, was organized to optimize the space. This made it feel comfortable. Everything in the room, from bedroom to bath, was modern and functional. And, right there in the magazine rack in the bathroom was a current issue of WIRED!! The king size bed was comfortable. The bathroom was clean and the towels were super soft, not rough from numerous washings. Checkout was a breeze. Turned in the key card and the desk clerk emailed the hotel receipt; no paper involved! There was just one minor drawback during our stay. Our room was on the sixth floor and there was notice of construction on-going at the hotel. While I didn’t hear any construction noise, there was a constant exhaust fan noise from the bathroom. I looked everywhere for an off switch but could not locate one. Anyway, it was a highly pleasant stay and will consider ALOFT again while traveling.

Dear STEVEN D,
Thanks for taking the time to share such positive feedback about our hotel with us. We are so glad to hear you enjoyed our unique hotel and decided to stay with us on your most recent visit. We're also glad you found our staff to be welcoming and enjoyed all the extra perks in your guest room. We apologize for any noise disturbances you experienced due to the vent fan in your room though, I have made a note of this to the hotel management team so we may look into the issue further. We hope you will once again stay with us on your next visit to Austin!

I was really excited to stay here
I've heard aloft hotels are great but.....
I am disappointed :(
The good: the bed was very comfortable and clean and the white linens were nice
The sink kohler tech.
I liked the sliding door/full length mirror to separate the shower/toilet from sink area.
There is a visible safe one can easily find.
Yum 2 bottles of complimentary water! And the room size is pleasant.
TV is nice. So is a cute retro analog clock.
I am NOT impressed with:
The drab carpet- I've become accustomed to indigos wood composite floors. The walls here, are drab too
The ahem closet is a Formica cubicle with a rod and you guessed it --- a DRAB piece of wool to pull across the "closet" to "close" it.
Shampoo mixed with conditioner is a dispenser doesn't work for me despite being bliss.
No shower cap either
A tiny
MR coffee with coffee mate - which is NOT healthy to use :(
No robes or slippers :(
So
If this is indicative of all aloft hotels
The given the choice
I'd stick with the happier indigo
IMHO
Just sayin.......

Stayed here for 4 nights for business travel. Very new and trendy style hotel. Close to dining (walking distance), shopping, and interstates. Rooms are modern, clean, and plenty of space. Good stay. Would recommend.

Stayed two nights over a weekend while the kids were at the grandparents'. This was a sort of staycation, as I work close by, but it was lovely! The staff took great care of us and even provided complimentary beer and snacks to my husband in the room when we checked in. We were recognized and remembered by the front desk staff during our stay. Definitely recommended and we'd definitely stay again.
