Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

“Impressive building and atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2013

The building is impressive for picture taking. The interior atrium is beautiful from any floor looking down or up to the ceiling. When we were there, there was nothing going on and visitors were few, so it was very pleasant to walk around and take pictures. Impressive.

“Beautiful grounds”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

We did not go in the actual capitol this time, as we have seen it several times before. We did go in the visitors' center, which has a number of interesting exhibits, and toured the grounds of the capitol, which has numerous statues and artifacts. Allow a good 2 hours or so for the capitol grounds and about two hours more for the visitors' center.

“Historic and beautiful”

The grounds were gorgeous and the tours were free. It didn't take too long but it was definitely worth the stop.

“A Must-See in Austin”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2013

Everything in Texas is bigger and better, right? Well, the Capitol is no exception. It's a fun, free thing to see when you're in Austin. Stunning architecture, and if heights don't bother you, be sure to climb the stairs for a bird's eye view of the rotunda.
