Owner description: If it's in Texas, it must be bigger and better. That is the motto that architects followed with the Capitol Building in Austin. At one time, it was the tallest capitol building in the nation. Others might be taller now, but this is still a beautiful building that shows off many of the natural resources which are so prevalent in Texas, such as limestone and the landscapes.

“Beautiful and educational”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Truly impressive grounds and facilities. On par with the national monuments in D.C.. Didn't have time for a tour, but met a gentlemen working at the gift shop (great little gift shop) who gave me an impromptu little tour and shared some history of the State and building that he so obviously loves.

“Worth a visit.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Th State Capitol is well worth a visit. Due to the timing of our arrival, we looked around on our own. it may well be more interesting if you take the tour. Anyway, worth a visit and set in very attractive grounds which include the Visitor Information Centre. (There is no need to go to the Information Centre before visiting the Capitol, tickets for the tours are sold on-site.) Look out for the photographs of the senators' and representatives' grandchildren in the chambers.

“"Must see" in Texas”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

The Texas Capitol is a great example of restoration done correctly. Be sure to get one of the guides to show you around---they know so much about the history of the building.
Visit the Capitol Gift Shop for the Texas Capital Christmas ornaments. They are really nice.

Enjoyed the brief tour of our Texas State Capital in Austin. Was not overwhelming and saw a bit of our past.
