“Pleasantly Surprised, although there were some hiccups”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2010

We stayed at the Ramada this past weekend while visiting my sister in Austin. This hotel is a bit older in styling, but the rooms are very clean. For instance, the bathroom has an older feel to it, but the tile grout and bath tub caulking were extremely white and clean. The free breakfast was quite good and the location is a short cab ride/drive from downtown. For the room price and close proximity to downtown, we were quite happy.

The only downside to this hotel was a problem with our reservation. We booked two rooms, each with a single queen sized bed. Upon check in, the desk stated that our reservation was for one room with a queen, and one room with two double beds. Even though I produced our email confirmation sent from Ramada showing two rooms with a queen bed, it was stated that the hotel was sold out and our reservation was not honored. We were compensated by having our pet fee ($20) removed from the bill, but there needs to be better communication between the global Ramada online reservations and what the actual hotel reserves.

You will not receive the same atmosphere as a downtown hotel, but at 1/7th the price, I would recommend this hotel to Austin travelers. One note to travelers, a lot of websites like Priceline or Orbitz still tout this hotel as pet friendly. This policy was changed to no pets as of 9/1/10. The manager Sam said that all reservations prior to 9/1/10 would be honored, but please do not select this hotel based upon the pet friendly policy moving forward.

This is really a very good choice for Austin, business or pleasure. The place was very clean, service was fine, breakfast about what you'd expect, good channel selection on TV. It took me only about 10 minutes to get to UT, 15 to 6th St. It's also easy to get to the airport. Everyone working there was nice. The value is excellent all things considered.
My only complaint: this is one of those countless hotels where the room doors slam automatically, and rather loudly. I got woken up at 2:20am and then again at 7am. Of course if the guests would not let the door slam, this would not be a problem, but people are inconsiderate. Can't somebody invent a door-closing mechanism that closes the door quietly? Other than that, the hotel was quiet. Despite being right next to the freeway, I heard absolutely no road noise.
Overall, I'd recommend the place and would return myself, but if a hotel chain ever got a quiet way to close the doors, I'd stay there for sure.

This was a get away for my daughter and myself and we were very impressed with everything at this property. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Austin.

For a conference in a major downtown hotel I choose the Ramada because my client does not pay rates of more than USD200 per night (what the conference hotel was charging). The Ramada hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, a good free hot breakfast and a wireless working well. There is a train to downtown Austin leaving not too far from the hotel -- a good alternative to rush hour traffic and expensive downtown parking. Even at night the Metro Bus will take you back in less than 30 minutes. Stores like Walgreens and Target on the other side of I-35.

We have not had the best of experiences with other stays at Ramada Inns, so we were a little leery about making reservations to here. So, our experience staying here for a night this past summer was a very pleasant surprise!

We were put off by the high prices of places downtown, and read horror stories about staying near 6th Street on the weekend with all the partiers. So, based on other reviews we read on TripAdvisor, we booked a night here. It turned out that the inn was convenient to downtown, modern, clean, very comfortable, had a better-than-average breakfast and was a very good value.

We would return on another trip to Austin.

It's about a 10-to 15-minute drive to downtown Austin from here, so it's not exactly "Central," but it's still a nice place to stay if in town for whatever reason. The price is right, at just over $50 a night, not bad for a top 20 hotel in Austin. Pretty much everything was great - the free breakfast was awesome (wait til you see the waffles), nice pool and great rooms. Like the Verizon commercial said, "the towels are kinda scratchy," but that's such a small complaint that it gets lost in the overall professionalism, cleanliness and comfort of this place.
