“Just and old apartment complex form the 80's”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

I am a business traveler who got suckered into staying at the Allendale based on good reviews. I read the possitive reviews and they appear "planted".
This is an old apartment complex. The room smelled of stale beer, there are water stains on the ceiling, the furniture is bagain basement and the TV is the old large box style.
The staff is friendly, but the property is terrible.

This hotel is an excellent location for me with family in the area; however, it is only a 20 minute drive to downtown Austin. The breakfast isn't what it used to be but I guess every one is cutting corners now-a-days. Shop around for a discount price - well worth it.
Friendly staff. They make every effort to please.

I stayed at the Hotel Allendale last Friday while I was in town for business in the area. My host arranged the stay, because the hotel was a 2 minute drive from his location. As the other reviews have commented, the hotel is a converted apt complex, so you might have a full stove in your room and other features indicative of an apt . The rooms were clean and roomy, the grounds safe, and the hotel staff were accommodating. I left my phone charger at home, and the man at the front desk, Rex, loaned me his when I couldn't find a compatible one in the lost and found. There was a generally friendly spirit among the staff and the patrons, but Austin is like that too.

The breakfast was a good, varied spread. You can walk to stores to get basic needs. The hotel is right next to a Walmart. Great stay for the price.

The Hotel Allandale is an old apartment complex turned into hotel suites and condos. We stayed in a one-bedroom unit. It had a functional kitchen and living area. TV in both the living area and bedroom. The beds weren't anything special, but not bad. The furniture was ok. It was clean.

If you're looking for a long term stay or traveling with kids, this is not a bad deal. If you're expecting a more typical hotel experience, this is probably not for you.

We had a mini-conference at this hotel this month, and it was mostly, all we needed. The room we slept in was a 2 bedroom suite, which was a little different from the pictures, but nice all the same. There was some peeling of the wall paper, but that does not really impact a nights sleep. In the courtyard was the pool, which looked nice, but we did not partake in swimming as it is February. The conference room we had came with nice Herman Miller Aeron chairs, which made sitting all day a breeze. Breakfast was a standard hotel continental, with some pastries, some bread products, and some microwave breakfast sandwiches. They had hot coffee all day, and cookies and milk after 9:00 PM. The property is on the other side of the local Wal-Mart, so if you forgot something, pop on over. The price felt a bit high, but I have never stayed in Texas before, so this could be standard. We were just in Austin for this conference, so we were not able to do much site seeing, so I am unsure about the location, and how close it might be to other hot spots.

Low cost but strange place. This an old apartment complex being converted to condos being rented as hotel rooms. Weird vibe here. Ok it you need a kitchen for an extended stay. Lots of construction throughout this property.

If you are looking for a standard hotel with all the belland whistles, thien this delightful aparment complex-turned-hotel is not for you.

But. .. if you like nice big apartment-style rooms, you'll love this.

I stayed in a two bedroom/two bath apartment (and yes, these rooms are converted apartments)
and loved it. It felt like home. I only stayed one night, but if I had stayed longer I could have made my own meals and brought in snacks. The apartment had a fridge and microwave, plus a sink and dishes.

This is really an extended-stay hotel for people who like to feel at home.
One caveat: The complex has no elevators, and the stairs are typical 70's style apartment stairs, so pack lightly if you are on the second floor!

Room Tip: Try to get a bottom floor by the hotel desk to avoid dragging you suitcases through the complex.
