I last stayed at this Residence Inn back in 2010, with several stays over the period of a month. I returned here because of that previous experience - and will continue to do so in the future. It's outside of the downtown core, and away from the airport, but in a nice little community area. It's actually right next door to the Courtyard, which allows you access to their indoor pool if you'd like.
Service-wise, it can't be beat. Four days before my trip was about to begin I received an email from their sales manager, welcoming me back and asking if I had any special requests or bookings I would like to make. Very rarely have I had hotels contact me ahead of time personally, despite being top-tier.
Upon arrival I was warmly greeted, and again asked if there was anything they could do to make my stay better. I didn't stay long enough this time for them to get to know my name, but it was always friendly interactions.
The room was the same as I remember it from years ago - red-coloured, with a little dated furniture. It was a one-bedroom suite, with everything needed for cooking.
Breakfast was great as always - a wide array of options, more then you would get from other hotels. I also love the Texas-shaped waffle maker, and the kitchen staff were always friendly and attentive - again, the service!
Most weeknights they also have a dinner prepared, which provides great options. Perhaps not always enough for a complete meal, but enough to complement a meal. Even better, they are very helpful when you ask if you can eat back in your room - no "eat-in only" policy.
Facility-wise, we had an issue with ants in our kitchen twice. The second time they seemed to completely die off, but it was a little annoying to have them walking over food as you cooked dinner. But hey, it's Texas!
The gym is very lacking - a single treadmill, elliptical, and bike, with a few weights. At the same time it was never busy enough when I tried to use it that machines weren't available. I had a surprise from my last stay though - the outdoor jacuzzi had been filled in with concrete, which was too bad - I used to love sitting in it under the stars.
This is a great hotel in the Austin area, and I highly recommend it for anyone - business or vacation.
