“Austin goes batty over evening bats”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2014

A fun and free thing to do in Austin: Gather around the Congress Ave bridge and watch the million plus bats come out at night. People watching almost as much fun as watching the bats.

“When in Austin.....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2014

We took a boat trip with Lone Star boat company and saw the bats from the river. The cost was ten bucks, which for a 90 min trip was a bargain. Seeing the hundreds of thousands of bats was cool but just as good was the view of the Austin skyline from the water. Eric the tour guide and skipper was very funny.

“Tonight you are all going to be part of a social experiment...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Underwhelming... where was Batman? Christian Bale? even a Robin would've been sufficient. We saw thousands of bats flying in formation in and out of the bridge. Not really millions. I wanted the bats to fly into my face, wanted splatters of guano on my jacket... ok, that's gross but in any case, the imagery was more like birds flying south for the winter. And those people taking pictures with their iphons and ipads... did they really think their flashes would work?

“Amazing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2014

Be sure to check out the sunset time for the day of the visit and come at least 30min before that to secure a good spot. Massive amounts of bats, unforgettable experience. The bats continiue to emerge for at least half an hour after the first wave, so it is worth staying for a bit more. Also while you wait enjoy a spectacular sunset at the other side of the bridge.
