Watching the bats leave from the Congress Avenue Bridge at sunset is highly recommended. It is amazing to watch them leave each evening.

“Bats, bats and more bats!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

A must see if you have some waiting time before dinner. I went and saw the bats during the summer and there are a few spots to see them, be sure to get there early as it gets packed, but so worth it. Austin has one of the largest bat colonies!

“Lots and Lots of BATS!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 26, 2013

A group of 6 of us were in Austin, TX in October 2013 for a mini vacation. We had heard about the bridge and the bats that live underneath the bridge that fly out every night at dusk. Dusk was about 7:15 that time of year so we drove down and parked close by and we were on the bridge by 6:45. There were probably 75-100 people there. Most were tourists like us and knew about the bats but not a lot about the bats. 7:10 pm, the bats started to fly out. Thousands of bats, hundreds of thousands of bats! Huge flocks of bats. Looked like a dark cloud in the sky. They flew pretty close to the bridge and we could actually smell them. Not a good smell. This is really something to see. After the bats, you head downtown to 6th Street for some drinks and live music. Fun night all in all.

An awesome even that happens daily at dusk. The bridge is a short walk from the downtown area and it doesnt take alot of your time. Its over in about 15 minutes.

“Unlike anything I've seen before”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2013

About an hour before sunset, head to the Congress Avenue Bridge. Parking is nearby. There is an outdoor bat exhibit to explore while you wait for the mass exodus of countless bats into the night to hunt. We're not exactly outdoor people, but this was amazing.
