“Wonderful hotel, great staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2008

My husband and I decided to stay at this hotel after hearing the other positive reviews, and we were not disappointed. The staff was extremely helpful and even printed us off a map to find the restaurant they recommended for us. The breakfast was great, and the hotel and property grounds were extremely clean. There are complimentary movies to watch in your room as well as a plethora of pillow choices. It felt more like a five star hotel than what I think of when I hear "Super 8." This hotel is very close to the airport and downtown Austin.

I reserved a room at this Super 8 after having no luck finding an available room downtown. After spending 4 nights here, I would recommend this motel to anyone in the area. Just a short drive away from downtown Austin, it is a wonderful experience. Don't confuse this Super 8 with any others.

The building is very clean with an interior entrance. The manager, Victor Patel, and his wife are charming and anticipate any needs you may have. The staff was very friendly. My room was lovely and large. Internet access is available, though there are some computers downstairs if you didn't bring one with you. There is a fitness room for those so inclined. The complimentary breakfast included a wide variety to choose from: eggs, bacon, sausage sandwiches, cereal, pastries, juices, coffee, milk, and even Texas-shaped waffles made by Mr. Patel himself. The dessert bar each night is a real treat.

The only possible downside is that their pool is not ready for use as of 09/28/08. Oh, and a tip - the water is very soft, so you won't need to use as much product in your hair.

You'll definitely get the most for your money at Super 8 - 183 Airport.

This hotel seems to be just opened new and everything is in great condition. When I stayed the pool was not filled with water yet. They have a dessert buffet at night and a breakfast buffet in the morning. Rooms have HD flat screen tvs but did not seem to offer any actual HD channels when I was there. Besides the new and nice factors, it is very easy to get to and from the UT campus and LBJ museum, requiring only one turn (from 51st street to Manor).

  • Liked — very new and nice
  • Disliked — a bit out of the beaten path, which is not a big deal

i agree with previous reviewers. This hotel was attractively decorated, VERY clean and had great unexpected amenities. The breakfast was outstanding, including bacon and 2 kinds of eggs. The gaming room (free xbox or wii) was a great way for my 2 15 year olds to spend the evening after a day of school and driving. The beds and pillows were great. The location was very easy for us to get to all the places we had mapped from the computer and printer in the lobby. Also liked the mini-mart to get vitamin waters and diet coke. The hotel filled up rapidly Saturday evening with evacuees from Hurricane Gustav and service never suffered. The breakfast room was that, a good sized room and food was still plentiful Sunday morning, even with the room full. I also got a better rate by booking directly with the hotel, 79.99, even on Labor Day Weekend. Not all Super 8's are like this one (we've stayed in 1 or 2 others) but this one was way better than other more expensive chains we've stayed at.

Okay, here it goes. If you're like me and like doing your research before spending your money on a hotel you've never seen before, you may appreciate the length of this review.
First of all, I was thrilled to find this motel considering the size of my family of 3 teens and a baby. We obtained a room with a kitchenite with a small refrigidator (not a mini/dorm, but small w/freezer), two burners and a sink, and the large room included two king size beds and a pull-out sofa for a great price, less than for one room with two full size beds in a 3 to 3 1/2 star hotels. We arrived three hours early and were unable to get our room. The gentleman at the front desk apologized and informed us they were short handed that day, but did say he would make sure our room would be ready within an hour. We returned much later after site seeing. Check in was speedy and the lady was very professional, we even recieved a welcome baggy with a few pieces of candy, chips and a bottle water (all of which was consumed right away by my kids).
The lobby was very nice and comfortable. There is even coffee avaliable throughout the day and night. The overall appearance was clean and nicely decorated.
Our room was huge. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows were nice and fluffy. There was a ceiling fan, which helped circulate the air and kept the room cold at night. The hotel provides special pillows if needed. The bathroom was average size, but with plenty of towels and amenities. The full breakfast was very good. Better than most more expensive hotels. Try the waffles, they are a must. The individual wrapped pastries were so-so, but everything else was pretty good. Brkft incl eggs, bacon, biscuits, cereals, juice, wrapped pastries, toast, milk, choc/strawberry syrups, coffee and of course waffles. The mgr was there every morning helping and kept the area clean.
There is a mini-mart with plenty of snacks and drinks for a reasonable price (surprisingly). The hotel also offers a dessert bar in the evening hours. Unfortunately we did not enjoy this complimentary treat, since we would make in too late every night.
My husband and I left the kids asleep while we walked the hotel late at night. It was a nice stroll, after which I enjoyed coffee in the lobby and sat on the sofa in front of a large flat screen. We also enjoyed a disney movie from their collection of movies in the lobby.
The cons of this hotel was no pool. The pool was not yet completed and would have been welcomed on such a hot day. Also, our toilet clogged up the second morning we were there. Good thing we were on the way out. We informed the front office and by the time we returned later that day it had been fixed.
The hotel is kind'a in the out-skirt of Austin and there's not much within walking distance, but I would not say that's a bad thing. I enjoyed the quiteness from 6th street. Food and entertainment is only a 5-10 minute drive in any direction. Overall, (for exception of no pool) my kids say this is the best hotel we've stayed at, and we've stayed at Omni (southpark and downtown), Holiday Inn, Best Western, Sheraton, Hyatte ect. That's it. The good and the bad, now you decide.

The owners of the Super 8 183 have seen to every detail. The rooms are NICE clean, beds are super comfy, nice breakfast in the mornings and DESERT BAR in the evenings. Small fitness room and business center with a printer (although it was really slow to load). They will allow you to leave your car there and shuttle you to the airport right in front of curbside check in, it was amazingly convenient. Other reviewers have written that this was free for them, but I was charged $3 per day for vehicle storage. Starbucks coffee/espresso maker in the lounge area. Only negative to report the pool was still not open on 8/6/08. There were people out there working on it so hopefully it will be open soon. Overall a wonderful experience, great value for the money. I highly reccommend it.

Stayed one night at the Super 8 183 Airport.
We chose this hotel because they have a "park and fly" rate. You can stay one night at the hotel and leave your car parked in their parkng lot during your trip for no additional charge. The shuttle to the aiport was prompt and got us to the airport in plenty of time. Personnel are very friendly and accomodating.
Pool and hot tub are not open - I asked about them and was told that there was some problem with getting the City of Austin to approve final plans.
It is about 4 miles to downtown Austin.
I would certainly recommend this hotel - especially if you are flying out of the Austin Airport and don't want to have to hassle with the airport parking.
