“Best Place in Texas”

Six Flags Over Texas

Aug 9, 2008

Alright, so I live in Texas, and I can tell you now, theres not a lot to do here, besides sweat. But Six Flags Over Texas is great for anyone. I was terrified of roller coasters, and by the time I road The Texas Giant, I was ready for all of them, I did my home work on roller coasters before I went, and made sure that it was a safe place to be. And even though my adrenaline was going haywire I managed to get on, and all was very safe, and wasn't scary at all. My only two look outs would be if and when you sit in the front of the Bat Man ALWAYS keep your head on the head rest, you WILL bang your head on the seat belts that go over your shoulders and your torso. Also, if you plan on going on the Texas Giant, be prepared to get thrown around really hard, I never really get hurt that badly, (I'm smaller than most people though) but my friends are bigger than me, and they always complain of head rush, their sides being thrown against the side of the cart, etc. but no one has ever gotten hurt on it so we go anyways. This park is so much fun, and when you go you shouldn't try to compare it to Disney. Most likely you will be disappointed, just go and have fun. And drinks lots 'n lots of aqua!

We travelled to this Six Flags as a change of pace, but now wish we had just stayed in Missouri.

Our daughter requires a wheelchair for long distances, overall the parks accessibility is NOT a problem.

However, utilizing the pass from Guest Relations to help our daughter get on the rides that required the handicapped entrances was disappointing and discriminatory in some respects. For example when following the parks procedure for approaching park staff for our "time to ride" they would fill out the next available blank in the booklet. Often times we would have a 10-20 min wait, which was NOT a problem. In two instances though we were given a 90 minute wait time, even though the ride had no real line. I asked the young lady why the wait was so long to which she replied that it was the policy. I asked again to clarify, the parks policy is my daughter sit here at the exit for 90 minutes when the ride itself has a line of passengers with an average if 15 min wait time? She rolled her eyes and walked off. I know it was a less than 15 min wait time because my son and wife walked around and go in line. If you are not familiar with this aspect the rides all have little signs indicating how long your wait is from different points as you stand in line. When I saw my wife and son appear at the head of the line I pointed this out the the ride attended. Suddenly it was our turn.

I resent that my daughter was treated in this way. It is not as if we were being pushy or wanting somehting for nothing, waiting a fair amount of time is reasonable. Being made to wait because 1 employee is annoyed with a young lady in a wheelchair was ridiculous.

If you require a wheelchair don't expect friendly staff willing to assist you in Arlington. For that matter, if you expect friendly staff at this park at all I found only ONE; the security officer on the Oil Derrick (the big observation tower) was a really nice guy who without being asked offered to take a picture of my family while we were on the observation deck. Out of almost 8 hours at the park he was the only one who even smiled the whole day.

Overall I observed park employees spending more time on cell phones or horsing around rather than paying attention to guests. Very sad experience overall. Other businesses in Texas were great, I love the state, but Six Flags Over Texas was disheartening to say the least.

6 Flags should be higher in the ranking of Things to Do in Arlington. This is a major amusement park with some awesome rides. Yeah...I think 6 Flags used to be better, but I'm also in my 30s now! It's still fun for me to go once a year. I can't wait till my child is old enough to go and enjoy herself. I'm sure seeing it through her eyes will bring back lots of my earlier memories!

I grew up in Texas and visited Six Flags several times as a child but haven't been there for probably 25 years. This year we were vacationing in Dallas and so I took my kids (ages 11,12,14 and 23) for a visit. What a disappointment. I don't think the place has been updated since the last time I was there in 1983. The parking lot was terrible. They don't believe in paying attendants to guide everyone into spaces in an orderly manner--it is every man for himself. We paid for premium parking, I think $20. Don't waste your money. Our spot was hardly premium and was quite a hike from the gate. The true "premium" spaces were reserved for the valet parking. I don't know how much the valet parking is. Although some of us had season passes, we had to go through the main ticket lines because we were using coupons for additional guests. The lines were long and unorganized, basically a mass of people trying to fight their way to the front with, again, no guidance from employees. Food was expensive, but probably not more than any other park. For five people at Johnny Rockets I spent $70. They refunded $12 when one meal was inedible. There are hardly any water fountains, a real annoyance on a 100 degree day. The bathrooms seem to be original to the park--one entrance, so people are struggling to get in and out the same door, and smelly. These definitely need updating. This place seemed to be understaffed, particularly regarding food/drink establishments. Navigation was tricky and it was hard to find a map of the place. Probably would not do this location again (Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio was nice, though).

We really enjoyed our trip to Six Flags. We ordered everything (from parking to flash passes) online. This really expedited entrance into the park. We arrived at 10:00 when the park opened. There were already long lines to get in. However, we walked right in with the printed tickets. If you are planning a trip… make sure you order and print the tickets ahead of time. Also make sure you get the better parking. It could be quite a long walk if you don’t. The Flash Pass Gold is a necessity. The lines for the rides were about 2 hours long. However, with the Gold Flash Pass, we never waited more than 5 minutes. Not all rides are part of the Flash Pass program (the good ones are). You receive a little gadget that you can hook on a belt loop. You simply highlight the ride and reserve your time (usually within 5-10 minutes of pushing the button). When you get to the ride, you follow signs to the front of the line. Without the Flash Pass, we would not have been able to ride all we wanted to. The rides were great and well maintained. It was very hot (101 degrees) so keep that in mind. Make sure and bring sunscreen.
