I stayed at the Residence Inn in Arlington on business for four nights from May 21-24 for a business trip to my company's office in west Dallas. Residence Inns have always been my favorite, and this hotel was no exception. I really prefer a suburban location over the several intown hotels where I've stayed before in Dallas. This property is probably one of the first Residence Inns to have interior hallways, which I much prefer over the older-style Residence Inns with the guest rooms opening directly to the outside, but it has been well-maintained over the years.
PROS:
- Comfortable studio suite with queen bed, sofa with pull-out bed and side chair, work desk and chair, free WiFi internet, full kitchen (albeit without a conventional oven), and full-size refrigerator with ice maker.
- Comfortable bed with clean sheets and numerous pillows.
- Any dirty dishes I left in the sink were cleaned the next day by the excellent housekeeping staff
- Great breakfast buffet, which varies from day to day, including biscuits and gravy, sausage patties, French toast, waffles, oatmeal, fresh fruit, cold cereal, sweet pastries, white or wheat bread for toasting, jellies, jams, orange juice, apple juice, V8, cranberry juices, whole milk, reduced-fat milk, and skim milk. And unlike other Residence Inns I've stayed at was never crowded while I was there. In fact, I had the place to myself one morning around 7 AM.
- Conveniently located to my business destination in west Dallas about 20 minutes away along I-30.
- Numerous restaurants nearby as well as a Kroger grocery, Albertsons, Whole Foods, and my new fave, Tom Thumb, for prepared meals and deli items.
- Stairs were carpeted and access door left opened which I often used from my third floor room to get some additional exercise, instead of using the elevator.
CONS:
- Lavatory faucet was not secured to vanity top and moved several inches while in use. I'm sure there was water dripping under the vanity top and soaking the carpet (room 306 in case any of the hotel staff monitor this site).
- Exterior keycard locks don't work reliably and don't click or light up to alert you that you have access.
- Dishwasher tipped forward when door was opened and was not secured in the cabinet opening
- Upon my return to the hotel one evening, the electrical power was off due to a thunderstorm, but was restored in about an hour. Luckily the keycard lock on the door allowed me to get into my room, but I will definitely pack a small flashlight in the future. It would be great if hotels had some sort of switchable battery lighting for rooms too (it would have been impossible to see at night if the power had not come back on). They have emergency lighting in the halls and stairways already.
- In the summer and peak season for Six Flags and other attractions, this hotel stays fully booked
- Would prefer to see a wired Internet connection, instead of WiFi, but that was not a problem since I brought my own Cingular broadband card, which picked up excellent reception.
- Would like to see a few more channels included on the TV, including Food Network and Hallmark channel (like some other Residence Inns in Orlando).
SUGGESTIONS:
- Would love to see either a conventional oven or perhaps a toaster oven or small convection oven in the kitchens for a little more serious cooking (like a frozen pizza).
- Need to repair/upgrade keycard locks to work more reliably.
- Install emergency lighting, of some sort, in guest rooms that could be turned on and off.
