“Just passing through”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Rather run-down and the front desk clerk (20 something girl) seemed quite distracted and unable to deal with more than one person at a time. We were directed to the back door to access our room and found the elevator not working and the other elevator not working properly. The clientele seemed a bit suspect and the area of town not the best. On the plus side, the breakfast at the diner downstairs was good and the bar was fun. Probably wouldn't stay here again, though. There are a lot more nicer places on the west side of town.

We stayed at the Amarillo Clarion Hotel because it is convenient to the International Airport. It was rated as 2.5 stars on a 4 star scale. The lobby and commons areas were in good condition, but the room had peeling paint and the curtains were falling down. Addtionally the carpet in the hallways was well worn. There were a number of old vehicles parked around the hotel. Not sure what they were doing there, but it was obvious that many had not been moved in a while.

Room Tip: The rooms around the pool and common area have the least noise. The common areas had some 8-liner s...

I travel to Amarillo every month for work and have been staying at this location for the past two and a half years or so. When it was ran by the Holiday Inn it was always a nice, clean, reasonably-priced hotel. However, my most recent stay was terrible. I was locked out of my room three times the first night because the battery in the lock was going out and had to wait for maintenance 15-20 minutes each time. When I finally got moved to a new room my key went out a day earlier than it was supposed to because the hotel staff mistakenly put in the wrong end date. The floor of the bathtub in my new room was breaking and it felt like I was standing on a waterbed. The staff largely seemed unprofessional and disengaged. Nothing at the continental breakfast looked even close to fresh and the juice machine does not work like everything (and everyone else) there.

This hotel is run down and poorly managed. The only positive comment I can make is that the staff was friendly. We arrived late at night to check in and were told to park on the side of the hotel and use the back entrance for access to the elevator there. Unfortunately, we found the back elevator had an Out of Order sign. We moved everything, including two dogs, to the front elevator only to find it would not stop on our floor. Another patron was kind enough to show us the elevator trick - if you went beyond the floor, then came back down and pushed the button just before reaching it, you. could usually get it to open with a few tries. We finally coaxed the elevator into stopping on our floor only to find our room key didn't work. After our room key was recoded, we got into our room only to find a dirty bathroom floor and a used bar of soap with a pubic hair on it. Also, the fan for the air conditioner/heater sounded something like a freight train so we ended up leaving it off. We were too tired and it was too late to find another hotel so we stayed - after checking the sheets.

Arrived for reservation at 11:30 p.m, was told that rooms were not ready, they were being cleaned, be ready in about 5 minutes. Waited almost an hour for a room with a lobby full of people in the same predicament. This property is old, rundown, and obviously poorly managed.

Friendly staff, the manager, Stephen, was particularly helpful and considerate. The center atrium has an area with pinball machines, pool tables, and arcade games. The Restuarant looks like an old soda fountain hang-out. The breakfast was better than average. The hotel is a little worn around the edges and could use some new mattresses. But, overall, it was clean and quiet, and a good value for the money.

After reading the previous reviews, I was not sure what to expect. We arrived on a Sunday evening, tired after a long drive. Check-in was friendly and fast, our room, which we Pricelined for a great deal, had a king-size bed, was clean, did not smell musty or like pets, bed was clean and comfy. We did not use pool facilities, even though our room had a balcony onto the pool area. Being Sunday night, it was pretty quiet. Breakfast the next morning was free in the attached diner, and it was awesome!! Real scrambled eggs, not the powdered egg product you get at other hotels- 2 varieties, 2 kinds of meat, sausage and crispy bacon, biscuits and gravy, french toast sticks with syrup-these were rather tough. Seattle's best coffee in room and diner, one of my favorites. Juice, cereal, breads for toasting. I realize that everyone can have a different experience during a hotel stay, but ours was great, nothing to complain about. I give this hotel a 4 rating because it was that good. Is it a 3-star property as advertised? Maybe. 2.5 for sure.
