“Great stay, right off highway”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2011 via mobile

This hotel has an amazing staff. Great location just off the highway. The hotel is somewhat dated, but it has a gorgeous atrium. The breakfast is nice and the indoor pool is beautiful. The beds are comfortable and the location is quiet. No complaints, the staff was courteous and friendly.

The service was fantastic during my stay. The breakfast was very good and there was a lot of variety. My only complaint was that my rooms mattress was very dated.

The hotel is older, but the inside was very nice and had a lot of character.

We stayed here on Mother's Day weekend. There was a promotion going on for special goodies for mom but we didn't ever see any such thing. Also, the hotel's boilers broke during our stay. We did not have any hot water in our room. However, the hotel as a whole was quite nice. The kids loved playing in the pool, and we enjoyed the breakfast as well.

Dear Guest
Thank you for providing feedback regarding your stay at the hotel. We did encounter a maintenance issue with our boiler system during the Mother’s Day weekend. It was unfortunate and although our engineering department conducts a strict preventative maintenance schedule, we can never predict these types of situations. As you know our maintenance team was able to rectify the situation in an expedite manner and return the system back to working order in no time at all. We do know this caused a brief time of inconvenience and that we apologize for. As you mentioned we did have a Mothers Day promotion if the Mother’s Day Promotional Package was booked. Those guests that booked that package received gourmet goodies, flowers and an assortment of other items. We look forward to seeing you back again.

Kindest Regards

Having read some of the reviews, it seems that some feel that old is bad and therefore new is good. The Ambassador is certainly an older facility, but is well maintained. We found it to be clean. The hot breakfast is a real breakfast, more than most offer. There is an attached TGIFridays, which is nice. Our room was nice sized. We've stayed in many of the new hotels such as Hyatt Place or Springhill Suites. They are good hotels, but we feel that Ambassador offers a good alternative.

Dated decor - like a 80's time warp. The whole hotel smells like a retirement home - some kind of cleaner or something. It's clean, but not clean in the corners of the rooms. Bathroom really small and very dated. The service is quite good here - the staff was very helpful and professional, they are the best thing about this hotel.

Dear Guest:
We appreciate hearing feedback of our guests, whether good or bad. And although the décor of the hotel, which was completely renovated in 2007, did not meet with your particular style requirements we are glad that your experience with our team members met and exceeded your expectation. I accompanied my husband on a state-wide York Rite convention for 400 men who stayed in your hotel. We brought our 2 American Eskimo dogs and found that many other wives came with their dogs, too. We stayed on the 1st floor for easy pet walking. Our room was clean, spacious, with an iron and ironing board and with bathrooms with hairdryers and coffee makers. The complimentary buffet breakfast was excellent, and included fresh fruits. (Stephanie coverted our reservation to one that was pet-friendly.) Our only regret is not meeting the GM and her dog, Haylie, to personally thank them for their hospitality! Best regards. Suzanne Natafji

Room Tip: bring soft kennels for use when dogs are alone

The Ambassador used to be _the_ hotel in Amarillo, TX. I used to come here with my parents as a kid and we would stay here every time we came to Amarillo to go shopping. I now live in Amarillo and my wife and I came here one night on a weekend just to have a night away from the kids.

We decided to stay at the Ambassador and now...really wished we hadn't. It's not a bad hotel in the sense that it's awful to stay at...inside it just looks really tired and worn out. Our room on the 7th floor looked like it had not been updated since the late 1950s. The carpet was peeling in one of the corners to you could see the concrete slab beneath. There were water spots on the ceiling in the room and then bathroom. The internet access is slow.

For $90 a night, I guess I just expected more....nicer at least.

On an up-note, the breakfast is nice and the front desk staff was nice and welcoming.

Dear Guest:

Thank you for sharing your recent guest experience on Tripadvisor. We genuinely appreciate feedback (good and bad), and are sorry to learn that your experience fell short of your expectations.

Indeed, The Ambassador Hotel is an older property. With that said, we are committed to keeping our hotel well-maintained. Additionally, we completed a multi-million dollar renovation at the beginning of 2007. The property was renovated working from the inside out. We updated the Atrium, replacing the skylight roof. All public spaces received new glass, tile, carpet, wall coverings, window treatments, and furnishings. The front desk, Heritage Park Restaurant, and guestrooms also received a new look. Last November, we also upgraded all of our guestroom beddings.

Your kind words about our Front Desk staff being kind and welcoming are greatly appreciated. Our staff strives to make sure each one of our guests enjoys their stay.

Thank you again for your comments. We do hope to welcome you back.

Most sincerely,

General Manager
