“Not all Best Westerns are created equal”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2010

We stayed here on a return trip from Phoenix. After driving all day, I picked the motel because it was on the East side of Amarillo, allowing us to avoid any traffic in the morning. Big mistake. The room smelled musty and was a bit dirty. All we really wanted to do was get a good night sleep and be on our way in the morning. This motel is at the top of my list for worst mattresses "ever". We toughed it out and left in the morning after an 'un'restful night.

The hotel was hard to find, and was in an area that smelled badly of feedlots.

Nothing terrible happened during the visit, but a few things were unacceptable:

- could not access wireless internet (one router was in the lobby, we were far from the lobby); irritating!

- the floor and the carpet was damp to bare feet (disgusting)

- the manager at night (11:00) behaved in a way that made us feel as though he was suspicious of us, not welcoming of us (no hospitality?)

- there was not enough parking for the rooms at all, and the spaces were very close making it nearly impossible to unload a vehicle (worrisome!)

Breakfast was okay. Room was nice and large. Slept well, but it was really cold and I didn't want to walk across the damp carpet in my bare feet to turn the a/c off because I was too grossed out, so it just was really cold. Location was somewhat hard to get to. Did not feel like it was in a good part of town, but didn't observe any suspicious activity.

Can't recommend the hotel; wish I had found a nice Hampton Inn instead or something.

The people at the front desk were very nice and helpful. In the hallways it was very stuffy feeling like you can't breath. The room was clean and nice. Then when we got on the bed, it was like laying on plywood! The bed was the worst I have ever slept on. It was like sleeping on the floor. The breakfast was a small continental breakfast, wasn't bad but not the best. It was my husband, myself, and three kids (2 teenagers and one 8 yr old). The pool was okay, was outdoor. We found a nicer hotel for just a few more dollars that had an indoor pool that was bigger, and a jacuzzi.

There was really nothing wrong with that hotel, it just wasnt what we were used too. The breakfast area was too small and the breakfast wasnt impressive either. The room was a room, good enough to stay for one night. We are big fans of Best Westerns but i wouldnt stay there again. But they did have Military disscount and they do allow pets which is very importend to us.

After staying at a terrific Best Western in Kansas we decided to book a room here. Big mistake....they are not all equal. Even though it was the same type of room (2 queens, micro and fridge) this was small, smelly and outdated. We had to fix the shower head so it worked properly, the toilet seat was loose, tv remote didn't work properly, pink sheets were ugly, and the towels were like sand paper. My middle son had to use the restroom downstairs and he told me he saw a hole in the wall and watched a cockroach go in it. Gross! There are TONS of hotels in Amarillo so do yourself and your family a favor and pick another place to stay.

We stayed here for the affordable price, but the rooms were not the cleanest and the beds were very very hard. The breakfast was o.k. - frozen sausage and eggs that you heat in the micro, toast, cereal, ect. Nothing spactular, but eatible. The carpet was dirty. If you walk around with no shoes on, your feet or socks get black. I made the kids shower, because I was not sure how clean the tub was to sit in. There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom, so it gets pretty stuffy after showering. They have plunty of hot water and the noise from the interstate was not bad. We stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in Tulsa on our way home. The rate was 109/night, but it was soooo much better. So you basically get what you pay for in a room.

My wife and I just got back from a tour of New Mexico and Texas.
Our last stay at the Best western in Amarillo was great. The staff were really friendly, rooms were clean and the breakfast variety was great.
Would definately recommend this hotel as the location is also good ( right on the I40 )
