“Nice decor, but...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2008

We booked well in advance and the assistance with the reservation was very professional. We were really anxious to try the hotel and the famous Restaurant but our review for both cannot be extremely positive.
The decor of our room (nr. 111) was nice (Texan/western style) but the room was not extremely clean...I found also a couple of holes in the bed sheet and the bath was dirty. The room was everthing but quiet and there were group of persons until 3am. There is a pool in the shape of Texas but we didn't try it.
Obviously this is a motel and not a 5 star hotel, but the rate we paid was high to me ($75) for the room the offer. Anyway, the Cadillac Ranch is about 22km from this hotel.
The restaurant didn't satisfy us: the service was very slow and we have eaten better steaks in Fort Worth and in many other places. BOTH OVERPRICED.

We arrived at this place and asked for a non-smoking room. We got a room for smokers but they didn't tell us. Next day we discovered that the sheets and the pillow-cases had holes, most likely produced by one of our smoking predecessors. We informed the reception and they promissed to inform housekeeping. We came back at late afternoon and discovered that 'housekeeping' had just used the same sheets. Again, we went to the reception. They told a particularly unfriendly lady about this, who became angry about us, not about by the lousy job of their housekeeping staff. Eventually, she sullenly changed the sheets. At least, she gave us the impression. After she left we discovered that the pillow cases hadn't been changed. We gave up.
We have a clear recommendation: if you want to stay in Amarillo, look for another motel or hotel.

i will say that there were not too many problems with the hotel, it was very expensive ($97 including tax) but cute and clean. the staff there was nice and accommodating. the pool was dirty but not so bad that our kids wouldnt swim in it. they apparently have no clue what goes on at the restaurant tho. we were given coupons for our breakfast and told that kids 10 and under were free. it was a tiny buffet, not large enough to feed the 30 or so people there and we constantly had to wait for it to be refilled, and we were still done eating before the waitress even brought our drinks. oh, and kids are not free. they charged 6.95 each for my 2 year old who ate nothing, and my 6 year old who ate a biscuit and bowl of cereal.
thats not even talking about the mess at dinner the night before - great food (only if you got the steak) HORRIBLE service, so bad i had to talk with a manager... lot of good that did me.
we might stay at the hotel again but we'll go ahead and eat at IHOP.

A visit with my daughter at the last minute. Front desk clerk was very helpful in our requests. My daughter wanted a room in the front building but on our return, I declared a pet and we were sent to the back building. A disappointment for her,but we still had a great time. A great value and a lot of fun. The pool is unique, service is great, and the employees are very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable. The food at the restaurant was good as was the atmosphere and entertainment. We will return again and suggest it to friends and family.

We stayed here on a cross country road trip, thinking it would be a fun, kitschy place. It is kitschy, but not really fun--I wouldn't stay here over another cheaper motel. The shower didn't drain, it was gross to be in water past my ankles! Also, the restaurant closes fairly early for dinner for a traveler's place (10:30 pm), and they stopped serving breakfast at 11 AM (the checkout time). So we didn't get to have dinner or breakfast. Pool was not even filled with water.

This is the greatest place. It was easy to find. The staff was very friendly. You have a cow hide (like) bedspread, swinging doors to the bathroom area, Texas flag shower curtin, and a shutter to cover the window. The room was very clean. They have a horse hotel for people traveling with horses. They also have a doggy trail area to let you pooch run without getting lost. It is located right next to the Big Texan Steak Ranch. They give you a discount to eat breakfast there. Overall we loved this place and will deffinatly go back.

I was quite surprised on arrival to be told that before they would let me have the key I would have to pay the full amount for my overnight stop, this should have rung alarm bells but it didnt and we stayed there for one night, it is the most run down dump of a so called hotel you will ever see, the rooms were in desparate need of refurbishment and the bathroom was very scruffy, my wife did not want to stay there but as we had been driving all day we were not in the mood to travel further that night, we ate at the Big Texan Grill and as said by many others it is very gimicky with overpriced food, the steaks were not up to the usual Texas quality, the next morning we were unable to shower as there was no hot water, the reception said " it will probably be working next time " !!! I stayed in over twenty different hotels in United States in December and this was definately without doubt the worst, please do your self a favour and drive on by to one of the many alternative hotels in the area. Now I know why they ask for full payment when you arrive, be warned.

  • Liked — being able to leave in the morning.
  • Disliked — run down scruffy place.
