It’s been a few years since we last stayed in a HIE. I recall them being about on par with Hampton – nice, basic, clean, comfortable accommodations, reliable but not usually the kind of places that really stand out. So, I was very surprised and delighted by this HIE. First, the décor as you enter the lobby reminded me more of what you might find in a very hip, modern, boutique hotel. The front desk staff were polite and professional. Our room was very clean with nice finishings and décor, and plenty of outlets. We thought the welcome bag of snacks was a nice touch. There was very good water pressure in the shower and I loved the Bath & Bodyworks bathroom amenities! The bathroom fan did not work, but since we were only staying one night I did not complain about it – I did mention it on checkout so that they would be aware of the issue. The bed was so comfortable! I loved having the choice of soft or firm pillows. Apparently, they have an even more extensive pillow menu, but we did not take advantage of that on this visit. Also, our room was extremely quiet – I didn’t hear hallway noise, highway noise, or noise from guests in other rooms. We did think that the plastic cups provided in the room seemed a little cheap and out of place considering the overall ambience.
Parking: Plentiful and well lit. Getting to the parking lot from I-40 was a bit confusing, luckily we read the tip on here about going through the Courtyard by Marriott parking lot to get there.
Fitness Center: The room was clean with plenty of fresh towels. There were five pieces of cardio equipment, all in working order, clean and well kept.
Restaurant: Even though there were many other restaurant choices nearby we decided to try the restaurant at the hotel. The cuisine was mainly Tex-Mex. The salsa was fantastic! It was so fresh; it tasted just like the fresh salsa that I make at home. All the food tasted very fresh – not from jars or cans. I, personally, would have preferred that the food had been spicier. However, I do understand that they need to consider that they are trying to appeal to a wide audience.
Breakfast: The breakfast buffet was served in the restaurant. There were a number of hot and cold choices available. The fresh fruit was very good as were the cinnamon rolls. I was especially pleased that they offered iced tea at breakfast.
The hotel was extremely well staffed, offered very nice décor and good service. This hotel is a cut above other hotels in the same class rating.
