While we liked the Maverick and found the staff helpful, I would not choose this motel again. The room is well decorated with talavera coffee cups and soap dishes and Saltillo tile. However, Our room was very small. We had no where to put our things. The lighting was very dim. In a town, where there's not much to do at night, it's hard to have two people in a room with only one chair and poor lighting for reading. Also, the bathroom was tiny. For this reason, I would not recommend this motel for heavy people. I don't know how they could fit in the bathroom. On one side of the motel is a highway; on the other a trailor park. The bed and especially the pillows were excellent. The railroad did not awaken us. Three trains went by in rapid succession after we got up in the morning which was no problem.
The food at the continental breakfast was not fresh; the coffee was very weak although the orange juice was good. The Maverick is across the street from Sul Ross University so we went to the Museum of the Big Bend on its campus. The museum is being renovated but still we enjoyed it.
