This is truly the nicest place to stay while in Alpine. It is clean, well-appointed, and the hosts are helpful and non-intrusive. I was expecting a sad, dismal experience...their website would not load on my computer and of all the hotels this had the least negative comments.
Yet I found it charming and its charm grows on you. Has a nice retro vibe. It does not have great curb appeal until you turn into the court area. Then take a huge breath, let it out slowly and relax. You are now at home in Alpine, Texas.

Lovely thick white towels, great sheets. Terra cotta floors. comfortable beds, new rustic-style furniture. The cleaning staff does a marvelous job of cleaning the room quickly and efficiently. Bravo.

Resident cat ---Miss Kitt;y, very friendly.

If you are a light sleeper be forewarned: the train rumbles through the town twice a night, and you may not like it. So stay somewhere else. At the other hotels, you may not hear the train, but I was not impressed with the other choices in Alpine; frankly, I never even heard the train; neither did my daughter.

I would recommend this Inn to anyone.

We spent one night at the Maverick Inn on a driving tour of the Big Bend region. Alpine was our first stop. The Maverick Inn has a very quaint West Texas vibe and was very nicely decorated. The outside looks like adobe and the rooms open to the outside with a porch lined
with flowers leading to an open courtyard. There is a pool, but we did not swim. The room we were in was small, but I didn't find it too
small (and I am probably one of those "heavy" people the previous
review mentioned). We had sufficient room to move around, store our bags, and make use of the bathroom facilities. The bed was comfortable and the train noise was not a major issue for us as we used the room's air conditioner to provide some background noise. The
rooms have refrigerators, coffee makers, and televisions. There are no telephones in the rooms. The hotel provides complimentary bottled water in the room, as well as coffee and tea.

While we liked the Maverick and found the staff helpful, I would not choose this motel again. The room is well decorated with talavera coffee cups and soap dishes and Saltillo tile. However, Our room was very small. We had no where to put our things. The lighting was very dim. In a town, where there's not much to do at night, it's hard to have two people in a room with only one chair and poor lighting for reading. Also, the bathroom was tiny. For this reason, I would not recommend this motel for heavy people. I don't know how they could fit in the bathroom. On one side of the motel is a highway; on the other a trailor park. The bed and especially the pillows were excellent. The railroad did not awaken us. Three trains went by in rapid succession after we got up in the morning which was no problem.
The food at the continental breakfast was not fresh; the coffee was very weak although the orange juice was good. The Maverick is across the street from Sul Ross University so we went to the Museum of the Big Bend on its campus. The museum is being renovated but still we enjoyed it.

We stayed at the Maverick Inn in Alpine, Texas over spring break. What a pleasant surprise it was. The motel is completely renovated in the past year or so with Saltillo tile and other rustioc touches. No two rooms are the same (we stayed in 2), all are really nice. Front desk help extremely professional and helpful. Not cheap but a nice value for what you get. Alpne is a railroad town so trains run at night. With the A/C running we did not find the noise a problem, but like most motels in Alpine they do provide earplugs. Great place to stay, love to go there again.
