Hotel is very charming and has lots of character. Very conveniently located to many of the town's attractions. Enjoyed the live entertainment each night at the EDELWEISS restaurant and brewery. Very reasonably priced. Only drawback is that the train is kind of loud at night.

The hotel is very charming. I did like the look and the price. Unfortunately, we had a comedy of errors during our overnight stay. Most of the problems were not the fault of the hotel. When we first got there, my husband wanted to shower. There was no hot water. We called and this was due to a town wide gas outage, which was fixed, but must have blew out the pilot. No problem. Then, the power went on and off three or four times. So, we went down to the restaurant for dinner. After being ignored for a while, we were seated in the far corner. I like our waitress, but the food was slow. We go back upstairs and find that a little mouse has gotten in a climbed to the top of the shower curtain. It was actually very entertaining. He was adorable. My husband took a picture, put him in a trash can, and let him out in the alley.

Like others have said, the train is noisey. It went by about 3 times. It didn't bother me too bad. We were bothered by the pillows, which were way too plump and by the heater that blew across our faces all night. Breakfast was ok, but the waitress was not very friendly. All in all, I have mixed feelings about the place. I would probably stay again, but would find somewhere else to eat.

I can't say enough good things about the Holland. I had wanted to stay here for several years, and finally got the chance over Christmas while driving back west.
I had hoped to arrive about 6pm, but ended up getting in about 9:30 and found an envelope with my name taped to the door telling me my room number and giving a little info on the place.
The room was better than I had hoped. I booked through the hotel and only paid $45. I got one full-size and one single bed, a small table, private bathroom, a TV and wired internet access.
Downstairs is a German restaurant with, of all the great things you could have in a hotel, a brewpub. They have four taps of locally made beer. I had one (I was tired and pretty sick), and it was actually very good.
Parking was surprisingly available. I got a space in the lot even though I had gotten there late, but there was still plenty of parking on the street left on the hotel's block.
The train noise may be a concern for some. I live very near a busy track and am used to it, but the hotel actually provides ear plugs with a note to the effect of "We find our train charming, but, if you don't, here's something to help". Quite thoughtful.
I love historic hotels and I love the town of Alpine. This would be a great place to overnight before heading to Big Bend, or as a sidetrip on a vacation to the Southwest (good alternate route to avoid I-10).

We stayed in Alpine to be close to Big Bend National Park. The Holland was cute and had character. The rooms were clean and interesting. Check their website directly becasue their room prices start at $45. You will definitely be woken up by the train going by at night, but I think that's true everywhere in town.
