I recently spent the weekend at the Historic Holland Hotel in Alpine, Texas and loved everything about it. The room was very nice and very clean. Everyone there was very friendly and happy to help with anything i needed. The restaurant located in the lobby had great food. The location of the hotel is perfect because its in the center of town. I would highly recommend that anyone going to Alpine stay at the Holland Hotel.
Sincerely, Austin, Texas

We stayed at the Holland Hotel one night on our way to Big Bend National Park. When we walked into the hotel, we found an envelope taped to the door with our name on it. We were not aware that the reception desk closed at 5 p.m.! The letter told us our room number and that the key was in the room. The room was nicely appointed, but the bathroom is in desperate need of updating. We were warned about the train coming through the town during the night which it did several times. The ear plugs were not really enough to stifle the sound much. There was a continental breakfast with consisted of orange juice, coffee, and some muffins and pretty stale bread to toast. However, an elderly gentleman was having coffee there and he introduced himself as Ted Gray, a real cowboy who lives in Alpine. He has written a couple of books about his life there. We spent the next night at the El Paisano in Marfa and in hind sight, we should have just gone the extra 24 miles and stayed there.

“Lovely and Charming”

Historic Holland Hotel

Feb 27, 2008

I had an emergency two-night stay in Alpine last week when my truck broke down with my husband, our four kids- three of whom are toddlers- and myself. We were immediately made to feel at home at the Holland Hotel. The owner personally attended to our needs- which were numerous! Our accommodations suited us perfectly- a three-room suite with two bedrooms, a living room, two full baths and one half-bath, fridge, microwave, and a view of the train station which kept the twins occupied for hours. I love the eclectic furniture and decor. Nothing cookie-cutter about this wonderful old hotel. If you support small-business owners, or want to keep your money out of the pockets of Corporate America, the Holland is an excellent choice of accomodations. This is very well-run family hotel.
And they brew great beer in the restaurant/ brewhouse in the lobby!!!!! Try the Alpine Blonde!

room was not ready, there was a band playing in the bar downstairs all night and the train runs right by the hotel about every half hour.

If you are looking for a sterile, every room the same hotel, don't stay here. The Holland has an old time, Texas frontier atmosphere and charm that will carry you back to before your youth. Yes, there are a few things that need upgrading and improving. Some of the rooms could use better mattresses. The room I had needed more lighting, both in the bedroom and the bathroom. However, when I mentioned this upon checkout, the desk clerk reduced my room rate by 10%.

The Holland is in the midst of slowly upgrading their rooms and some of them are gorgeous. This was the third time I have stayed here and each time I have enjoyed it more.

A choice of four different full breakfasts is included in the price of the room and and all are excellent. No layout of rolls, cerel boxes, etc. Lunch and dinner are very good, and normally there is a special of the day. The selection of beers from the brewhouse, located on site, is very tasty, and the Texas Black Gold pleases my palate most of all.

I've always found the staff helpful and informative. I will stay here again, and I do recommend the Holland to all my friends. Oh yes, the trains do make noise, but I consider that to be a part of the experience. The hotel does provide its' guests with earplugs
