“Average Experience. Slow Service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2014

There are not many dining options in the small Texas town of Alpine and we wanted to give this place a try. It’s in an interesting spot downtown near the Holland Hotel. It is a combination old, but newly renovated, small warehouse with high wood ceilings, and part old gas station that has been converted into a restaurant. Modern well lighted décor. Offers a full bar which is rare in a small town like Alpine. They have a nice looking bar with one large flat screen TV if you just want to go there for a cocktail. But I wished they would show something else on the TV. It was kind of loud music videos / MTV and not appropriate for some children. In addition to pizza they have a decent menu with a variety of reasonably priced sandwiches and salads and appetizers. We were there for lunch and when we arrived we were the very first lunch crowd customers. Others poured in later. They were preparing a myriad of take out orders and some customers came and went, but for short time we were the only ones in the place. I say this because it made no sense that the service was so slow. We ordered the pizza bread stick appetizer and it was quite good. And we had sandwiches. The bread for the sandwiches is some type of calzone –like fresh baked bread which obviously adds significant time to each order. Wish they would say that on the menu. The sandwiches were served hot with ruffles potato chips. Not bad for the price. Service was too slow. It seemed they were not prepared for the lunch rush. This is not a place for a quick lunch. Plus, a few other things stood out. The glass on the doors and windows were not cleaned. Lots of handprints from the day before. Plus, the restrooms were outside in the old gas station building and they had not been cleaned or serviced that morning. Overall it was an average experience. One has high hopes when a place like this opens in a small town and I do hope they make it, but they need to improve the service and attention to detail.

“terrifc place”

very good food prepared by a very accommodating and friendly staff and a very fair price. Places like this one need to be supported because they are very good and deserve to be successful. They earn it.

“Cute and convenient, but slow and no food after 2 hrs”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed December 30, 2013

We really wanted to like this place since it's right across the street from our hotel. The ratings on TA were more favorable than those on UrbanSpoon so we decided to give it a try. There are limited options for food on a Sunday night in Alpine. We should have gone to Sonic instead.

I completely understand and accept the limitations of a busy and understaffed restaurant. However, 2 hours to only get appetizers and microwaved bread is unacceptable. Particularly when people who came in after us received their food orders, paid and departed. For what it's worth, the bruschetta is pretty good for pizza-joint fare. We're still puzzled as to how you run out of Cabernet Sauvignon when you only have two reds on your wine list.

“Great pizza!”

Great pizza in a small, cozy restaurant! We loved the thin crust pizza and friendly service! Great for couples or families! Nice find in Alpine!
