A quaint, historic B&B in the heart of birding mecca -the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. Owner/manager is a birder himself and know where all the birds are. Shares great tips on birding sites, when to go, and what to see. Also has a great Nature Store along with great personal service to clients.

The stay with Alamo Inn was excellent in every way and I recommend it to anyone traveling to the Rio Grand Valley.

The rooms are spacious and clean as well as being conveniently located.

Keith is a superb Inn Keeper and takes exceptionally good care of the property.

The rooms are clean and beautiful. The food is bountiful and cheap and always available. Being with other birders is wonderful. The guest computer is a blessing. The birding books in the store on the main floor are a terrific asset. I very highly recommend the Alamo Inn as a truly lovely place to stay while in the Rio Grande Valley.

This place is a hidden gem. For those who want more than just a room in a hotel, this is it! Each room has its own decor. Exceptionally clean and comfortable. Very glad we stayed here and already planning on a return trip.

"Comfort" is the first adjective I'd think of. Then "handy" and "focused" on my needs as a birder ~ it provides supplies for a day's activities, the latest info & reports on the computer, and a knowledgeable, interested, and friendly host in Keith. Its location puts you right in the heart of a half dozen famous birding sites. Its accommodations offer relaxation & good sleeping for your next day's exploration.
No wonder I return year after year.

If you are a bird watcher or just enjoy a comfortable place to stay that has character and offers great service, this is the place to settle in. The rooms are comfortable and roomy, with each room having a different theme - none of the typical boring, motel rooms. The location is very convenient for folks who want to bird the Lower Rio Grande Valley, being located about half way between South Padre Island and Falcon Dam. Breakfast and lunch fixings are available 24/7 so birders can get an early start and pack a bag lunch if they want. The associated nature store has one of the best selections of bird and other nature books I've ever seen, as well as optics and other gear. You'll often meet other birders, especially at breakfast, so can share sightings and good places to go. Plus it's a great value. I'm used to living in the country, but even though the Inn is located in the city of Alamo, it is surprisingly quiet. This was my second stay and I'll be back.

I've done numerous rare bird chases to the LRGV. Used to stay at various motel chains. No more. The Alamo Inn is centralized and nearby nearly all of the famous bird refuges. The owner is a friend, a premier birder, and the best host in the Valley. The Alamo Inn is a great destination and a great value. Sign me up!
