“Surprisingly nice little museum”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

Like the country itself, the museum is small -- just two size rooms and a hallway. An hour is plenty of time for the visit. However, the exhibits are quite well done and this is a clean, respectable setting, not a a dusty, shabby place.

Dscriptions are in English and Marshallese and are printed in large, easy-to-read text, unlike many museums.

The museum entrance is free. Lots of poor countries demand absurd fees to see their small national museums. So, it's a nice gesture to put a few dollars in the donation box.

“The Heart of Marshallese Culture”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2014

There is not a lot to do on the Island of Majuro. If youre looking for something to spend sometime and understand the culture, this is a definite insight. The museum is very small, basically one medium sized room. There are displays on geology, geography, people and their culture. I felt like I learned a decent amount about the migration of mankind throughout the islands in the pacific. There were informative displays of local shells and also another on tools/implements. Nice displays on weaving, and good examples of the history of the kind of weaving you'll see around the island. There was a nice explanation of how the patterns in weaving related to natural forms.

All told I spent about 45 minutes there. It was a nice change from sun and sea. There is also a public library on site, but I did not visit. ANywhere else this would not be a four star attraction, but given the dearth of options, it was definitely worth seeing
