When I set foot inside the See Wee Restaurant, it seemed a little more country than I bargained for. The walls were stacked with giant vegetable cans and soft drink bottles, the restrooms were out back, and the waitress really did call me "darlin.'"
I was starting to think about uncomfortable banjo music, but a local kayaking guide had recommended I try the she-crab soup, and I was ready for something warm after paddling. That bowl of soup was wonderful. Thick, steamy, pinkish with crab pieces, and the thimble of sherry that my sweet waitress suggested I pour on top made it even better. This soup surpassed the version at the Hominy Grill by, well, a country mile.
The oyster Po' boy that followed was nearly as good. Fried oysters, yet so juicy that they might have been shucked that morning. I did not have room for dessert; for more details, see the link to the RoadFood review.
If you are on highway 17 north of Charleston, don't hesitate to stop here. Make a U-turn if you have to!
