I live in Anderson South Carolina and whenever I have a special occasion that requires a little extra, I always pick this restaurant.
We recently had out of town guests drop-in and we owed them a nice dinner out so I picked Sullivan's. It was in December and I managed to get a spur of the moment reservation. I have usually eaten here and enjoy the food, atmosphere and service but wasn't sure what to expect during the busy holiday season.
The net-net is that we were delighted. The staff was geared up to handle the crowds and the service and food quality did not suffer at all. Our friends are from out of town and well travelled. They expressed their shock at finding such a quality act in our little town.
Bottom line - I like the place because they do this Mediterranean touch to the food that creates lots of flavor with food I am familiar with. The atmosphere is elegant in the curious way that a "made-over" 1900's era hardware store can be made into. I like looking thru the glass into the kitchen and watching the manical "dance" as the crew prepares the food. I like that the wait staff is layed back and casual but very knowleable. I love the wine list.
I got no compaints with the restaurant (only praise) but if you don't know what you are doing it is hard to find a parking place. I also wish that the street types didn't hangout sometimes at the entrance piazza but, hey, this is a downtown restaurant and I have never had any kind of problem with the folks.
