September 12, 2013, I attended a retirement party of a former coworker at the Variety. I had never been to this Aiken landmark but am very pleased with the service and quality of the food. You can't judge a book by its cover nor can you judge an eating establishment by the homey interior/exterior; the place opened in 1931 and the walls/decor/building reflect the age. Inside is nothing fancy but all that paled when we interacted with the waitresses since the staff treated us very well and brought us our lunches in a reasonable amount of time considering we had almost thirty in the party. I ordered the hamburger, huge, delicious and not expensive. I also snatched a few french fries and enjoyed them. Looking around and talking to the others within the group, I heard no complaints. The staff was timely to refill drinks and help out in any way possible. Aiken is fortunate to have this place. No wonder it has outlasted other restaurants and does live up to its appellation, "Variety," with its diverse food selection.
