My husband and I just returned from a three night weekend trip to The Willcox. It was a wonderful experience. We were greeted in the expansive lobby (with two opposing fireplaces and wood everywhere!) by the hotel staff and promptly given a tour of the inn. Another staff member went to our car, retrieved our bags, and took them directly to our room. We tried tipping both the staff members, but neither would accept (a nice touch). Our room, the Hitchcock Suite, was an absolutely beautiful corner room with a very large sitting area, TV, sofa, chairs, writing desk, and a fireplace. Our separate bedroom was also nicely appointed with a fireplace and a huge four poster bed, fluffy featherbed, and good quality linens. There was a small refrigerator (which was embedded in the nightstand, no unsightly bar refrigerators here!) stocked with bottled water, and juice; and there were bathrobes and slippers in the closet. The staff had turned on the lights ahead of time and there was beautiful "spa-like" relaxing music coming from a high-end Bose CD player on the night stand. The mood was definitely set!
The inn was not very crowded so we had "free run" of the entire place. We were encouraged to walk the halls, check out the other bedrooms, read in the library, relax in the huge lobby, lay by the pool. We felt like we were the only two people there.
Breakfast in the morning was continental with cereals, muffins, juice, coffee and quiche. Unfortunately, the five star restaurant was forced to close a few months ago, seems the local economy could not support it.
My husband and I each had an hour massage in the inn's spa on our first morning. The service there was impeccable as well, so much so that we each booked additional spa treatments following our massage. My husband opted for a 90 minute massage, while I scheduled a "Willcox Signature Facial". Both treatments were wonderful, and very relaxing.
I can't say enough about how helpful the staff was, particularly Jackie. She guided us to several very good local restaurants, provided maps and directions, offered assistance in planning our day, etc. She was a very gracious host, and she and the rest of the staff were all very accomodating.
The Willcox is a beautiful, relaxing place to spend a weekend getaway. We will definitely go back!
