“Best on the Main Line”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Have been coming here for years...and If you like your Chinese to actually be Chinese food and not some Americanized rendition, there is no other place outside to the city to consider...especially if you like it a little spicy too; they aren't afraid to spice it up...

For something a little different and really good try the Chengdu Lamb. But everything here is really good...from the hot and sour soup (better than any I have had in Philly) to the stuffed peppers.

They serve very authentic dishes, truly brought from China to the US and are part of the highly respected Foo family you may know already. Go see them and enjoy a treat!

“Great BYOB dinner spot.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

We had a nice dinner experience at Hu-Nan. The service was excellent. Arrived at about 6:30pm and saw that only a few tables were filled. We were a little disappointed to discover that the restaurant is BYOB, since we didn't bring any B. Ordered hot & sour soup, pan fried pork dumplings, General Tsao's chicken and wok-fried noodles with shrimp. The soup and dumplings were very good, and the pan-fried noodles were amazing. Lots of perfectly cooked veggies, tons of medium sized shrimp, and delicious noodles in a light sauce. The General Tsao's chicken was pretty good, although I though it was a little overcooked. After requesting the check, we were presented with chocolate-dipped fortune cookies (YUM!) and fresh orange slices. Overall, a really great dinner for two for about $50. We will definitely return!

“Best Chinese on the Main Line”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013

We really liked this place. Good variety of gourmet Chinese food. Nice atmosphere in the dining room and a a room upstairs as well. Great take-out spot. Decent prices, above average food. I find like it much more than Yangming and find it to be a better value than Sankee.

“Rock Steady. Excellent Quality Food. No Question About It.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

This restaurant has been around for a long time and it is simply excellent food! We have tried just about all the competition and the only one that comes somewhat close is SanKee in Wynnewood. I have been a Hu-Nan customer since the 80s and have never been unhappy. The quality of the food is simply the best in comparison to any other Asian restaurants. They have a winning product and formula and that is why they have been around for so long. The only ding I would give this place is parking can sometimes be a problem. There are very few close by available spaces. You might have to park across the street but that's okay because the food is worth it. P.S. It's not overpriced like some people might think or say. Compare their prices to the competition. I think you will be surprised when you make the comparison. Yeah, maybe an item or so might be a dollar or two more than others but you are paying more because everything about the food is far superior than others.

“up to the standards of San Francisco's very best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Hunan is more formal than warm with the split dining rooms and lounge removing energy and flow from the restaurant. What you do get is a quiet, well decorated setting for the elegant and beautiful meal. Our meal was very good and up to the standards of San Francisco's very best. The seven course meal was memorable both for the uniqueness of its ingredients and the surprisingly large portions.
